First Intake Pipe Section Removal

First Intake Pipe Section Removal
I'm thinking of permanently removing the very first section of the air intake (located at the very front right driver's side of the vehicle - in front of the battery) on my '04 TL. The section itself is only ~7" long. Many of you probably know what I'm talking about now so I'll cut to the chase.
It looks like the removal would make sense because the stock "cold air intake" duct on the fender would feed the air directly into the new start point of the intake (flow at a 90° angle). When I tried it, my car did feel like it had more power, and since the flow still goes through the resonator, one would think that the synced pressure waves from the Helmholts frequency stuff would still be working.
The only concern I have is that dirty particles would fly in from the road, making me have to re-oil my lovely K&N filter more often.
Have any of you done this? What are your guys' thoughts? Thanks.

when you remove the resonator, take the pieces from up top near the battery area, and relocate them to the bottom.
you'll have to cut a piece off the resonator to achieve this. it uses the stock rubber couplers and the stock velocity stack.
the velocity stack, the piece near the battery, is specially designed to force more air in
the front bumper has to come off to achieve any of this.
