Which exhaust system for that non-ricer sound?

I would like to invest into a complete exhaust system and I know that there are a lot of options available on the market. It's difficult to get a feel for the tone of the exhaust my listening to Youtube videos. I'm looking for performance obviously and would like add a deeper tone to the car. Somewhat like a Mustang. Is this possible?

I get an erection every time I hear this Vettes exhaust.

I *BELIEVE* the way our engines are made, we will never get a deep rumbling sound.
it will always be high pitched.

you will spend LOTS and LOTS of money chasing your ideal exhaust tone.

If you're wanting the sound of a Mustang, get a Mustang. You need a V8 to get the sound you want. I don't think any cat back exhaust on the Market for the TL's sound "ricey" Some may look ricey, such as the Greddy (that's my opinion). Our cars sound great with any catback, nice deep throaty sound.

I think the ATLP has that deep rumble sound and XLR8 has more of that exotic sound.. like a lambo or ferrari..

I would be okay with either or I suppose. In terms of performance, how do they differ?

You'll never get a TL to sound like a Corvette. The TL has a 24 valve 3.2-3.5L V6 while the Corvette has a 16 valve 6.0-7.0L V8. Very different engines.

OP, the ATLP setup is definitely a quality exhaust, I have it on my base & LOVE IT! It won't sound as deep or rumbly as a V8, but you'll get a nice deep tone and if you throw in the Magnaflow resonator that's offered by Heeltoe (the dealer to buy it from), the drone is cut down significantly. The ATLP quad exhaust is sick...many members here have it. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I would go with a RV6 full setup, PCDs, Jpipe and the new TD V2 exhaust.
The TD V2 exhaust is far more aggressive sounding than the old one.

Nice. Since I am maybe in the market for a new exhaust (apparently local PD didn't like the sound of XLR8 v1), that video of the ATLP is nice!

@ CLtotheTL - is that resonated or non-res?

Non-resonated. That video I only had the exhaust. Since then I've added the ATLP V2 J-pipe and ATLP Race Pipe.

Kuckle1, you may want to ask that question in the 2g tl forums. they may be able to help you better than in the 3g.

ATLP catback without resonator, RV6 long tube J-Pipe that deletes 3rd cat. I had this before and LOVED IT. You will NEVER get that sound from a TL

I recently got rid of a 2010 2SS/RS Camaro LS3 with muffler deletes, That car SOUNDED AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

With the exhaust I suggest your TL will sound more like a Ferrari.

Thanks for the awesome videos Boston

That exhaust costs BIG $$$.

I would if I could.

My next Type-S will have the RV6 long tube J-Pipe with ATLP quad catback without resonator. I think its close to your sound, and good enough for me Thanks Again

As long as your resonator is large enough, you shouldn't have any issues with "rice" sound. The J series motor sounds very good with a catback, and with a full catless exhaust as well. You may experience minimal rasp with a full catless system, but I like a smidge of rasp, gives it an aggressive feel.

You will never get the V8 rumble from a V6. Down low it may sound similar, but once you get up in the RPMs it will never sound the same.

I think the best setup I've heard thus far (I haven't heard all of them) is on Youtube. Search TL Type S ATLP exhaust. It's a member here with full ATLP exhaust, Vibrant resonator, and RV6 PCDs. It sounds exotic, almost like an M5 (seriously). Obviously it doesn't sound like a V10 M5, but it has an exotic tone which sounds similar. I think my exhaust sounds great too. It's got a deep, angry, aggressive tone and when I punch it near a divider I get the chills. But I may be bias
