Exhaust question.
Exhaust question.
Hi everyone. I have 05 tl. Ive studding the exhaust for a bit. I noticed after the 3 cats there is a silencer and a pre muffler. Just wondering if i should delete them to free up a little power. At the time money is slow and i am saving for a comptech exhaust. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks!

TicaL, save your money and leave the "pre muffler" in place. Any gains in horsepower would only help the higher revs and not the low end and you probably wouldn't even notice the difference.
Case and point, Comptech's states their Cat-back exhaust adds approximately 7 HP and that’s mostly along the upper RPM.
Just keep saving and when you've got enough, look into the Cat-back systems or the "Pro" cats.
A good CAI system wouldn’t hurt either.
Good luck!
Btw i was also told that if i delete the silencer and pre muffler, that will void my warrnty. A budy of mine told me that. It sounds right. What do you guys think.
Also, dont worry. Im not going to hack my exhaust. Im still shooting for the comptech.

Tical, here's a little info I posted on another thread...
" If the law that applies here in California applies to all states then it goes something like this - By law, Acura (your dealer) can't deny warranty work unless they can show how the particular aftermarket mod contributed to the failure of a part or subsystem (like engine, tranny, electronics, etc...).
What you need to be careful of is, the law does not state that the dealer has to service you. He can choose to send you away to avoid getting into issues between you and with the corporate office concerning you problem. "
So anytime you change, modify, add or remove components from your “warranted” car, you run the risk of issues with the manufacturer. I'm fortunate that I have a great Service Advisor at my dealership whom I discuss mods with to determine whether it's something they will tolerate or not. He's really good at balancing my interests as well as Acura's!
All I can say is have patients, apply good planning and be realistic on what you what and expect out of your mods.
For us, we plan on keeping the TL for a long time so it is important that any mods we do to enhance its performance and looks don't void the warranty for now or the structural integrity of the car.
BTW, the wife and I had to budget the mods as we went along too, so you’re not alone in the “short cash dept”!
Have fun personalizing your TL!!
