Exhaust modification on a Base '04 TL

before posting up this post i looked thru threads about exhaust changes about magnaflow, greddy etc and stage 1 and so on but couldnt seem to find any video of cars driving with the exhaust just revving. my question is im trying to modified my exhaust without sounding like a far cannon coming down the highway..any ideas of what exhaust setup i should use that isnt loud but sounds nice?
thanks

People have different taste when it comes to modifying the stock exhaust but I did the rear muffler delete and I love it! Has a great performance tone to it.

Here you go...

I wouldn't prefer stage 1. Not enough loud. Some people says it's like G35 but no way near it. Reading might not help here or listening videos.
You have to try it.

I would prefer stage 2. I am happy with it. Perfect

If you go stage 3. Don't forget it's not stainless and you live in NY

Do stage one first. Cut the muffler. If not enough
Replace the resonator

I don't have a video of mine but there was a good one on youtube but evidently the user deleted it. I did fine a video that's real close though, he has the rear & mid muffler delete.

Sounds good to me, my mid muffler is definately going away, I was thinking about removing the rear ones too since the resonator is pretty large and the car still will have 2 cats on it after I do my J pipe. I think I'm gonna knock out all of it this weekend.

Custom Muffler System

I modified my exhaust about 5 years ago on my '06 TL. It is the sweetest sound on the road. Here are the specs:
We removed one of the catalytic converters, replaced the pipes from the catalytic converters all the way to the back and enlarged to a .25 inch wider pipe system. We installed a magna flow muffler system. And it sounds very sweet!
To acheive greatness, we customized the Y shaped divider in the back to connect the end magna flow mufflers. I also customized the end tips of the muffler to give it a nice look. Make sure you find a good machinist to do the custom job - Good Luck.

I ran for a few days with the exhaust eliminated resonator back. It sounded really nice but the drone was rediculous. Between 2-3,000 rpms it was annoying, but when I opened it up it was sweet . I'm sure my neighbors didnt agree though

A lot of people do the Stage 2 mod.. it doesn't sound too bad. I would just try to save up for a used catback.

I'm currently have the RV6 True Dual Type-S exhaust on my TL. I've had it on for a year so far and it still sounds great. Other brands to look into are: ATLP and XLR8. I'm not a big fan of the Greddy Evo2's.. they sound like fart cannons IMO.

I'm also curious how this would sound, who has deleted just the rear mufflers and left the res and mid muffler in place? I know mid muffler only won't be loud enough for me and I wanna keep the res, so I might try both of those first then maybe ditch the mid muffler too. As long as it doesn't sound like a Civic I'm ok with loud and/or drone.

The rear muffler delete sounds amazing, that's what I have done. I have had a lot of complements on it. I would leave the mid muffler and the resonator bc I think it would be a lot of drone with the rear deleted. With my set-up I have a little drone but not bad at all. Try it you'll love it!

That was what I had as well before the upgrades. I would definitely leave the res and mid res on.
I would love to keep this setup but the s/c made it louder.

There are two rear muffler. The ones right before the exhaust tips.

No idea, I just took the car to my local muffler shop and they cut the mufflers, made the pipe, and welded it in for $40.

So, did this yesterday.

Not loud at all, both rear mufflers gone and RV6 J pipe, very low pitched rumble at idle, doesn't make much noise at all when flooring it, zero drone/rasp. I want it just a bit more aggressive, that video above sounds good to me with all 3 mufflers gone, but I'm torn if I should do the Dynomax res or a Magnaflow in place of the stock res first or delete the mid muffler first, I can't see the mid muffler making much of a difference at all so I'm more inclined to mess with the resonator, that thing is huge. Just afraid it might be too obnoxious since I already have the rear mufflers gone. I really expected it to be a lot louder.

I thought it would be loud too.
I would replace the resonator with magnaflow first.

I did the stage 1 first and didn't notice much difference, I mean only you could notice it, not others.
but after stage 2 which is magnaflow, it gave nice tone to it plus much more louder I mean perfect tone, not too loud not too quiet.

Stage 2 or 3, which is more popular for the members? I did some search the other day and there was a couple people with Stage 2 complaining about some rattling noise with Magnaflow resonator.

I believe stage 3, I heard it a lot in here, but top reason for me to get magnaflow was it's being stainless...

Rattling noise, yeah I do hear it sometimes around 2700 rpm when the exhaust is cold, but after it gets hots, perfect tone.

I need that to be louder, I will visit a shop tomorrow to straight pipe the rear 2 mufflers.

Stage 2 or 3 is good but only if the RPM is between 2500 - 4k
rest is stock unless exhaust got damn hot

Why wouldn't Dynamax make stainless. If it rusts will it fall off?

I did the mid-muffler delete and added the RV6 jpipe. Kept the stock resonator and tail mufflers. It's definitely a little deeper exhaust note vs. stock. No drone, plus a little performance boost.

I'll take one shortly, just haven't had a good chance, I'm not gonna bother with my cell phone camera. At idle you can barely hear it standing behind, it is a little louder when you get on it.
