Exhaust Mod Project

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the world of exhaust mods. Ive been reading a bunch of threads on different mods ppl have done. Im trying to decide/understand what mod would be best.

Just wondering if I could get some suggestions on what I should do. I'm looking for a more aggressive sound rather than the stock. I have a 06 TL with a stock exhaust.

I've read that some ppl have removed the mid-muffler and installed a straight pipe and swapped the stock resonator with a dynomax resonator. Im wondering if this is a good idea to start with or will it cause drone or rasp? Last thing I want is for it to sound like a ricer.

I also read that some ppl removed the rear axle back mufflers and replaced them with Magnaflow's, is this a good idea or will it be too loud?

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Magnaflow 11365 mufflers.

Dynomax resonator 24235.

Mid muffler delete with straight pipe.

I have heard this setup and its sounds much better than just leaving stock mufflers.

^^^ I agree. Even though I haven't personally done any of those exhaust mods, from listening to YouTube vids, I think "stage 2" exhaust mod is the best. Stage 2 is what he described above. Mid muffler delete and add a magnaflow resonator. Cheap mod as well, and believe it or not, from YouTube vids sounds better than any aftermarket system. Sounds real nice, and you get to keep the OEM tips that fit great.

technically its stage 3 but the resonator is bigger, so you wont have rasp. + magnaflow rear mufflers make it even better because the oem mufflers make an annoying hollow kind of sound..

Thanks for the replies.

So you think removing the mid-muffler and replacing it with a straight pipe, along with swapping the stock resonator with a Dynomax 24215 wouldn't make that much of a difference?

Just to clarify your suggesting to remove the mid-muffler and both rear axle backs and replace them with the magnaflows, and swap the stock res with a Dynomax. Ive read that ppl have used the Dynomax 24215, whats the difference between that and the one your suggesting?

Thanks

Ok ill try to re say what ive seen from the progress thread of the person whos vid i posted. Basically he had the bigger dynomax resonator and mid muffler delete and it made little or no change in the sound. So he than added the magnaflow mufflers and that was the vid you seen above. The difference between the two resonators is the one i said is bigger so theres a less chance of rasp. If you go with the smaller one your sugggesting, it would be even louder than the video, but with a chance for rasp to occur. Personally i would go with the bigger one because i know it works. And i wouldnt want to re visit a muffler shop. You could go stage 3 wich is the dynomax resonator and mid muffler delete and it would be loud, i just suggest the magnaflow mufflers because it gives a nice deep sound wich the oem mufflers cant give. Sorry i couldnt make the paragraph easy ro read lol im on my phone.

Okay I see what your saying, thanks for explaining.

I really like the sound of the video above. Ive also heard some talk about j-pipes. Would I need that or could I just keep existing piping and just put a straight pipe where the mid-muffler was?

So yea if your digging the vid you can do what i posted up top. If you want to risk it you could change the resonator for the one you mentioned, and itl be louder. I have a jpipe and im going to try the setup i mentioned, hopefully its good.

Go on YouTube and search TL stage 2. That's IMO the best sound I have heard. Most people use the magnaflow resonator it seems and leave OEM mufflers in back.

Ive read through that post, and they are suggesting the Dynomax 24215 resonator but what Nick216 is saying is to go with the 24235. Some say not to even remove the stock resonator all all or you will get rasp.

Looks like the
24215 is shorter and the 24235 is longer.

Listen to vids of stage 2 and 3. And decide, and after you have either, if you want to be louder go for magnaflow mufflers . My whole thing is i really just want it to be right the first time, ide rather not take multiple trips.

I completely agree that's why im asking and reading posts to decide before I go ahead and make any changes.

So really the only difference between the stage 2 and stage 3 is the type of resonator? Magnaflow or Dynoma.

So I think what Ive decided to do is order the Dunomax 24235 res and do the stage 3 mod. This resonator has 2.25" ID/OD, just want to confirm that it will work in my 06 TL..

Yes it will work - OEM pipe is 2.25". I have the same setup that Nick216 described and linked in the progress video. I also have a RV6 v3 jpipe and mine seems a little louder than in Zach's video, but it's hard to tell.

IMO the 24235 is a conservative stage 3. If you are going to add a jpipe and/or try the magnaflow rear mufflers later on this will be the resonator that you'll want to have in place. If not, the 24235 may be a little more quiet than you expect.

The 24235 is going to sound like stage 1 . Only get the resonator if you plan on more exhaust mods, jpipe or magnaflow mufflers. It will help with rasp and focus on a deep tone.

If you are trying to mod your Honda made car so that it is less like the family sedan that it is, then it is a "ricer." It's ok, that's why we're all here!

i have an '05 and i removed the mid muffler and replaced it with straightpipe. then replaced the resonator and rear mufflers all with magnaflow. it sounds awesome. really deep and has good volume. loudest is when your going slower and then the sound of the engine takes over as you get faster. im very happy with it

If you need more info on the stage 3 (24235) mod with magnaflow rears (11365) check out my progress thread. I am the guy that did this mod that this whole thread is talking about and those are my videos. I love my exhaust! I still have a slight want for MOAR loud/deep tone. but this IMO is the best sounding ive heard.
