Exhaust idea...
Exhaust idea...
After searching and searching, didn't find too much on an idea I had, or anybody who had done it. If anyone has, please let me know what your thoughts are, how it worked, and sounded.
My plan is to gut the cat, remove mid muffler, remove resonator, and install a glass pack exhaust similar to the Magnaflow resonator used in the stage 2 exhaust mod on this forum. From the looks of it, the Magnaflow "resonator" is actually considered a muffler on Magnaflow's website, and all other websites, so I guess it isn't a true resonator after all. With that in mind, why not save a few bucks and get a Summit Racing glass pack muffler with similar dimensions? I know on my brother's old Mazda MX6, just gutting the cat changed the exhaust tone quite a bit. My question is if I do all that above, how much different will the sound be from the stage 2 exhaust mod?
And to anybody wanting to give the, "what about the enviroment" speech, save it for someone else.

I havn't heard of anyone who did that, but I would recomend getting yourself a test pipe or a race pipe to replace that cat. It's an expensive thing to hollow out, and if you don't like the sound, it's like another $300 to replace as opposed to the $60 you spent on a race\test pipe.
As for the other part, you're essentially doing a "Stage X" type exhuast, but with a resonator no one on here has tried yet. I say go for it and let us know how it sounds.
The lack of the cat will make it a little louder than if the cat was in.

That is a good idea, but I was kind of thinking that a hollow cat would serve somewhat as a resonator.... If anyone has done this, please let us know.

haha.. brand new is way higher than that when its OEM
but would definitly go with a race pipe from ATLP if really considered gutting it...

haha.. yea, you better hope it doesn't..
luckily, i got a deal from someone on here but one flange had bolts cut in half
if you add up all the primary cats and the 3rd cat for the 3G, it'll cost just as much.. or more.. hopefully you guys don't have all 3 go bad all at once..
