exhaust help!!!!!......Cutout switch...?

ok so i dont want to redo my whole exhaust so what i heard about a cutout switch were(from what i was told) they cut out a piece of ur exhaust piping and put in a pipe with an open close valve that gets wired to a switch. the more the valve is open the louder it is. I want to a local shop and they gave me an estimate of 800$!!!! i asked around and found that is very expensive. Does anyone know where i can order this for my 2005 acura tl. If you know the exact piece please tell me. I found this website im not sure if this will fit my car tho.

http://www.cincyperformancestore.com...owprofile.html

please comment and give me some places to where i can get this piece.

THANK YOU ACURAZINE!!!

$800??? Dam does that also include a whole new exhaust? thats crazy. you can def get it done cheaper.

as for your link, you are looking at the dual low profile cutout that unless you modded your exhaust to a true dual wont work.

http://www.cincyperformancestore.com...leecutout.html if for the single cutout.

where are you located?

Summit racing has these for $150. This kit looks to be a dual kit and we only have a single exhaust the splits to two right before the rear bumper.

for a stock exhaust, i believe it would be a 2.5 inch single cutout since stock is 2.25. dont quote me on that tho other will chime in.
plainview is not that far. one of my job offices are there and i love taking the drive up there to open up the TL on 495.

i saw this exhaust cutout done on a corvette at one of the car shows i went to this past summer. this shit is sick. the volume double as soon as the exhaust was cutoff. this is a must have for individuals that want to choose when they want thier car to sound mean. basically, this for everday drivers that with a flip of a switch can change the tone of ur car to deep, loud rumble. i was thinking about this to but seriously 800 dollars!! No way!!

If you want an exhaust cutout for ur tl I'd suggest you look up badlanz... That's really what yoù need... Get it 2.25" and wire the switch in a nice hidden place, install the cutout after the cat...

Dude, first of all, that shop is obviously trying to rip you off, since you're young and don't know much. (Obvious assumption, since you're asking us.)

Just get one of the kits from badlanzhpe that's a 2.25" cutout (or 2", not sure on the diameter of a stock TL exhaust, before the y pipe), with the piping included. Go to another exhaust shop and have them cut and weld the pipe on with the cutout, and you're set. I don't see why that's so complicated to understand. Of course it'll work for the TL, it's a universal kit. The TLs don't have some kind of special exhaust system, lmao.

Just to point out this...
I don't exactly know what the OP is looking for, whether its sound or performance, but installing the cutout right before the split ( Y ) all you're doing is bypassing the mufflers, and on a stock exhaust, gains are very minimal at that point. But, if its strictly for sound, then it is a good place to install. In fact, removing the pre-muffler and installing the cutout in its place is IMO a good idea, and it will fit perfectly

i would think this would just kill performance on a slightly modded NA TL. you need back pressure. wouldn't the low end just be oatmeal...maybe breathe slightly better in the very very upper rpm range but, nothing useable.

help me understand this, opel

Seems to me that the OPs exhaust is stock, and he's looking at this mod as his exhaust mod. Bypassing the mufflers isn't really going to reduce backpressure.
There's so much more stuff from the motor to the mufflers that are actually building too much backpressure.

You could literally have a straight through exhaust with no cats, no resonators, no mufflers, and still have backpressure. This all varies on the size of the pipe, which effects pressure and velocity. So a smaller size pipe, even though straight through, can create plenty of backpressure, but at the same time it would choke the motor at high rpm.

Also torque isn't lost, its just simply moved up in the rpm band.

i just remember i cut a sport muffler off an old VW, put on a hideous straight shotgun tip (i was young). it ran like I yanked two cylinders out. put a sport muffler box back on and it was better. had a discussion with a dude later and he said it was a back pressure issue. been freaked by back pressure ever since
