Exhaust help

i have an acura tl 2006 and trying to get a new exhaust. i'm a complete noob when it comes to this so i'll be needing lots of help.

i saw a clip of an HKS exhaust which i liked a lot but couldn't find one for the tl. anyone know how to get it to fit?

Also, if you guys know any other exhaust that sounds nice that doesn't break the bank, please let me know
thanks

Well first of all, HKS doesnt make a full exhaust for our cars and you can only buy the mufflers. So if you wanted a full HKS eshaust you'd have to go to a shop and have an exhaust custom made and just bring the HKS mufflers that you buy offline somewhere with you
And secondly, depending on how much is in your "bank", you are probably going to have a hard time finding any full cat-backs under 900 bucks.
The greddy evo II catback sounds really good IMO and is the cheapest I've found, coming in at $845.
You can, however, do other exhaust mods that will make your car sound deeper and slightly louder for MUCH cheaper.

One mod that a lot of people have done here on Azine is buying an aftermarket Jpipe. This will give you a fairly big boost in power while giving your exhaust a little more growl as well. Or you could do the cheapest method and just take your car to a muffler shop and have them remove your mid muffler which wont give you any power, but will give you a little more tone for like 50-75 bucks. Go on youtube and type in stage 1,2, or 3 exhaust on an Acura TL and see if you like the sound. I have stage one (which is only the mid muffler removed) and I like it a lot. You can, however, remove the resonator and your third cat if you want even more volume(stage 2 and 3).

Can't we just replace the resonator with like a muffler, wouldn't that be a cheaper way to get exhaust? What is our stock pipe size that runs through our resonator? Would it be 2.25 pipe size? I am planning on doing this mod by replacing resonator with a magnaflow muffler.

this is the part where people will tell you to SEARCH! these topics have been covered before. many people have gone with magnaflow, flowmaster, borla, hks, etc for universal mufflers. whatever your preference is, im sure it has been done before, and you can find info about it by searching old threads

Like chinkwapin said, you need to search for this stuff!

But yes you will still pass inspections, as it will not affect your catalytic converters. And if you mess with anything other than the mid muffler its not stage 1 anymore. But I have stage one and it pretty much sounds stock except when you really get on it. If you want even louder than that you will probably have to get an aftermarket resonator. Some brands are louder than others and most people either go with the magnaflow or the dynomax resonators.

Seriously though, ALL of these questions have been answered hundreds of times.

stage 3 has a little drone at 2500 RPM but if u have ur radio on even volume 1 u cant hear it. as for magnaflow mufflers i cant say but stock mufflers is real quiet inside

i think he meant replacing the rear mufflers with magnaflow and removing the mid muffler completely and replacing stock resonator with magnaflow resonator. it has been done before:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc1Nxnb0jQk

you're gonna need external speakers/headphones to hear the bass note in the exhaust cuz without them it kinda sounds stock

That sounds great! That's exactly what I'm looking for. I see the rundown on the Youtube comments, can you confirm what parts are on that car? Not sure if it's yours or if that's a link to someone elses car.

Do you find any rasp in that setup at all? That's the one thing I'm trying to avoid.

Thanks...

Another thing, how loud is the above setup? I'm wondering how it sounds at higher RPM, don't want to sound like one of those Civics blasting out from blocks away.

sorry not my car. YouTube videos are hard to compare to real life so it's bestto actually hear it in person. try asking around to see if someone local is willing to let u check out their setup

I did all the stages, got sick of them and bought an ATLP base exhaust. You can find a used one on the black market for around $750-900. Been happy ever since

Yea when you get all this tiny stuff done its going to end up being fairly expensive anyways. Just buy an an entire catback and get the sound you want in addition to a substantial performance upgrade. You could also go to a muffler shop and just have them make you a custom catback with whatever mufflers you want for like 5-600 bucks.

It depends on what you want in a muffler. Duel tips? Single tips? Aluminized? Stainless steel? Go to -> THIS <- link and check some of these mufflers out. But one thing I'm not sure of is what the stock diameter of the tubing is that you'll need. My guess would be a 2.25 in inlet and 2 in outlet.

99% of people who do aftermarket exhaust will run 2.5" piping from the J-pipe all the way to the Y-pipe(if you have a resonator it goes in this section and will also be 2.5"). At the Y-pipe it will then split into 2.25" piping which is what you will want your mufflers to be.

Yes it matters. That's why people get catbacks in the first place so that they can get hp and tq gains from an increase in air-flow which allows the engine to "breath" better.

Thats a good point because you want a fair amount of back pressure still. I've just seen most people on A-zine get the 2.5-2.25 setup.
