Emberassed to ask about staged exhaust

After being here so long I should know this, but I never picked up on this...

Stages 1, 2, 3 on the TL...

Stage one is? Stage 2 is delete the mid-miffler, stage 3 is replace the mufflers w magnaflow 14326?

I did search a little but didn't actually find what I was looking for.

Marcus

Stage 1 = mid-muffler delete
Stage 2 = mid-muffler delete + magnaflow resenator (replace stock)
Stage 3 = mid-muffler delete + dynomax resenator (replace stock, shorter I think then the magnaflow or something like that)

There was an excellent post by someone, with descriptions, part numbers, and videos for sound clips. But I, like you, can not find it when searching.

THANKS! Bookmarked!

Would anyone be interested in bolt-in stages instead of needing to goto a hack muffler shop?

Sure, but this stuff is cheap to buy and cheap to have them hack on. So the price would have to be very competitive.

You would have to hack it anyway to make it hot-swappable. I don't see the point unless your kit would replace everything in between the cat and the mufflers.

Dynomax is kinda junk tho. Magnaflow really makes the BEST mass productions mufflers. I used to work there and I can tell you these are made with hieavy guage material, top notch packing material, and high end robotic welds.

Just bought one from them right now. Looked around muffler shops around my area and all of them are asking for 80-180 for the Dynomax resonator/speed bullet or whatever it is.

Honestly I dont see the point of making pre built stages. The prices that most muffler shops give are pretty cheap...And hacking away with a sawzall and rewelding is not hard for most shops. I know local shops that will charge 50 bucks depending if you bring them the part if not cheaper.

What do you call it when the mid muffler AND stock resonator are deleted? Stage 1.5? The previous owner did that to mine and it sounds mean, but with a nasty rasp at 2500 rpm.
I'm looking to XLR8 to solve that problem with a cat-back and a j-pipe.

Would replacing the mufflers alone be any kind of stage?

Stage 3 costs only 100 bux for a hack job. Im running it and I love it, but I warn you.. it only craves the urge for a while.. you'll be getting a full catback soon. That's what I'm about to do now.

Marcus if you design a another exhaust, can you focus on the tips like ATLP did, the only reason I'm hesitating going with an ATLP exhaust is due to over drone but I love his tips the best. This is also the same reason I have held off on buying COMPTECH, TANABE and XLR8... just wish they could get the tips right for our squares.
