You do recognize the TL-S already has much free-er flowing cat than the 04-06? You will probably realize some gains from them, but NOTHING compared to the 20+ HP 04-06 get, becasue thier cats are so restrictive.
I would SWAG (and that's all it is, a guess) that you'll get less than 8 hp out of them...

If you do them, you must do a before and after dyno.

Again, a swag... but I woudl estimate 7-8HP from that as well. If you can get em cheap, they're a viable alternative.

It has to with cell density... I "believe" this to be the case:

OEM 04-06 cats are 1000 cell/inch.
OEM TL-S cats are 600 cells/inch
E-shift cats are 200 cells/inch

Assuming linear gains...

If going from 1000 cells to 200 cells = 20+ HP - Going from 1000 to 600 should yield about 1/2 that. By the transitive property, going from 600 cells to 200 cells, I would expect about 1/2 the same gains.

Completely untested theory, but plausible no?

Sounds like a sound theory.

Is there a picture of the Type-S exhaust from under the car? I'd like to see one for comparison.

Guys, the flow will be much better with the ESP cats no matter what, but the negative is that you'll get some rasp from your exhaust if you are not supercharged. I know I did!

ONe thing you are not taking into account is the difference in engine size. I think the bigger engine would benefit more than 8hp. I think excellerate should weigh in. My guess is 12 hp.

I have actually had few TL-S guys do the cats and they said they noticed a huge difference in power, and the exhaust note got better. I don't have any dynos and I have advised these guys that the TL-S does have 600 cell cats but still 200 cells is still significantly better. If someone does a pre and post dyno just for the cats I'll take off $100 of the price to pay for the dyno to see the gains.

Just remember,

You will fail a visual inspection for smog unless you know someone who does not care. Being a new car though i guess you wouldn't have to have it re-certified for quite a while//

The $100 off from Josh is pretty cool someone should def do it

I notice everyone keep saying the E-shift pro cats for 04-06 would help a lot. Does that mean changing the cats ONLY will make the difference or the whole thing? and also, does anyone know where to get one of those e-shift pro cats? Im too new to TLs =P lol thanks

ask excellerate, he is the vendor for them! It is only the cats nothing else.

He does a good job and prices are very competitive. I've bought tein ss, camber kit, AEM intake and rotora slotted rotors and ceramic pads from him, good guy

After all......i'm not gonna get pro cats. base TL will gain 20~30hp, but not on TL-S. Stock TL cats hold 1000cells....TL-S cats hold 600cells......E-shift pro cats hold 200cells. Comparing air flow ratios between these three, base TL has best result in gaining. TL-S will only gain half of base TL in performance. That's only 10~15hp or maybe less.
