DYNO RESULTS - Type S w/ Procats 249hp vs Type S w/ No Cats 260hp

here is a really crappy pic of the dyno sheet, my scanner just crapped out on me but eh... you guys get the deal

We dyno'd back to back... I ran like 9 runs in my car, all were the same... ran 2 with thewanderer316's car and it first gained 11hp+ then shortly after 2hp less cuz of the heat...

so let the discussion begin at

249hp (209 on the lbs tq)
vs
260hp (no tq #'s recorded wanderer we had to go)

how does yours sound now? is that 11hp for the catback and deletes or just deletes? do you still have a 3rd cat?

man I can bet I picked up a fair bit of HP going from the stock system to the cat-free system, especially if just pro-cats to no-cats gave you 11hp!

all dynos read differently, but that looks like a Winprep dyno.. which is what we used at speedworld..

Al ran 269whp @ speedworlds dyno, and 249whp here.... so all machines show differently... i like to use the same dyno, so you can compare back to back when addin mods...

i pulled 273whp at speed world... so if you're pulling 11 over the pro-cats, i bet me and you can pull over 280+whp at speedworld....

Also, its humid out today... and much warmer then when i did my pulls in April...

Look at my signature, wanderer has the thermoblock spacer installed and the stock sized ur pulley those are the only differences between the platforms

So it is infact 11hp from procats to no cats ... You'd figure the procats gain 15hp.. But since hp isn't a mathematical equation I would still say on an auto the richie v6 setup adds 20hp+ to a type s

I think their dyno was pretty on the money since The Wanderer and I have similiar mods. Losing a lot of power thru the auto trans and drivetrain but I still booked 306 on the bottle. Notice the difference in the torque numbers! That would explain why the car is all over the road on the bottle. The guys at the shop were impressed by the numbers for an Acura Tl. They work with 800+ wheel cars all day but they were a little suprised by the black beast!!!

Exhaust/Intake mods are the only real power adders, and both have CAI, so I think Al's "equality" assessment is close enough.

3rd cat on both cars? I assume you ran with all 3 procats and wanderer ran with deletes and stock 3rd?

I'd agree with Al that these are probably 20 HP on an auto... but I would not venture that the procats add 15. Since the TL-S comes with freer cats stock, I'd venture pro cats add about 10, and these add about 10 more.

That said, certainly more economical than pro-cats at $250... outside the environmental impacts.

Yeah thats a Sarona wing. All the exhaust stuff is pretty new. Sounds like its getting a little louder as I move along. Poor car. Only has 3k on the clock.

so the precats will add another 20 whp if you have all the other setup (I/E, jpipe, race pipe, spacer and stock 3rd cat)?

Not sure I'd say that...
I'd say, with ALL the unresticting mods (exhausts and intake), best you're gonna get is about 25HP or so. That's it.

A N/A retune properly setup may get you another 5-10... and to go beyond that means more air and fuel via forced induction or bigger displacement.

dude I dunno, I know people like to be conservative with these mods, but DAMN there is a power increase. I have an 04 5AT and although it sounds weird under 2800 it sounds bad ass over 2800 and really frickin moves!

LOL.... erick... let me explain a little bit more

TheWanderer316 has no CATS at all
I have all 3 procats...

we both have the atlp jpipe/aem cai/p2r throttle body spacer

I have the underdrive pulley... he has a stock sized lightweight pulley

he also has the p2r thermoblock spacer (which I have but havent installed lol)

pretty much our cars are modded at the same point except for the cats... so just by removing the procats I'd gain 10-11hp at the wheels...

doesn't he have the atlp race pipe? or did he take that one off too? so, if i have the atlp race pipe and the precats, would i still get the 10-11 hp increase too?

306 on the bottle..............

Man that is tough!

maybe I will break 300 some day. Pretty suprising though with a 75 shot I figured you would be around 325.

if you have the precats deleted you will gain atleast 10-11hp...

I don't think juice works well on dyno's... cuz his car pulls way harder than 308hp...

if you factor in a 15% drivetrain loss... that is about 355hp

Don't worry about low dyno numbers with an auto. I went 11s with 260rwhp. In stock form, the hp numbers seem to be close but as you push through the convertor with higher hp, the readings get artificially low. The only way to get a correct reading would be to lock the convertor which I don't know how to do on the TL.

In other words, as you make more power, the convertor gets less efficient (an aftertmarket will get more efficient with more power) and the hp calculation is thrown off.

What were the torque readings on the nitrous pull?

I should've read through the thread better....

I think your torque should've been signifigantly higher. Are you running good gas....no knock retard?

Wouldn't it be better if you are able to do the before and after pulls on the same car? I think that you guys could have gotten more accurate, or even better readings if they were done on Al's or TheWanderer's car, as the baseline power results in between each car may read different.

well racinghart can install the precat deletes in under 2 hours... but he is an A tech ... I don't even qualify as a B tech ... so if we got the dyno's done on the same car there would be like 4-5hours in between the pulls.... which is usually a night and day difference... what we can say is the margine of error is always plus or minus 5hp

I agree! Strong numbers for a 3000 mile TL. Still got a while on that break-in oil too, huh?

I swapped the oil out since while I was tuning the N20 I was piggly rich for a while so I wanted that oil out. After the precat deletes A/F was at like 9.9 dirty. So once I got it redialed in I dumped the oil. The car definitely runs strong. I will most likely up the jetting later. I could easily put down 325 and I am sure the car could handle it but I just plopped the car on the dyno as it lies on the street. It runs good so why push the envelope? If I was truly that interested in putting down the highest numbers dyno wise I wouldnt have gotten an auto lol.
