Dual Resonators Exhaust Mod?

Hello all! I've been doing quite a bit of research over the past 2 months, trying to determine what exhaust mod would be the best for me. I have to keep my car pretty quiet, so I was looking into the Stage 1 exhaust. However in looking at videos, it seems like the Stage 1 exhaust is barely louder than stock. So I looked into the Stage 2 exhaust using the 22" Magnaflow resonator, but I'm worried that may be too loud. So in trying to find something in between stage 1 and stage 2, I had a thought. What would it sound like if I replaced both the mid muffler and the resonator with 2 Dynomax resonators, essentially making it a Stage 3 with an extra resonator thrown on? Would it sound exactly like a Stage 1, or would it sound like crap?

when fucking with exhaust, it literally is experimentation.
NO ONE KNOWS how it's going to sound until you slap on the resonators and start her up for the first time....

you know how corrosive products say "apply a little to test spot first"
this is how you should treat modding in general.
start off small and slow.
if not to your liking, step up one step.

start off with "stage1" if not to your liking, add a 2nd resonator.

Thanks justnspace for your quick response. I asked this question because I was unsure whether dual resonators had been attempted yet. If not, I was going to do as you suggested and start with a mid muffler delete and go from there.

ive replaced my exhaust parts with already made exhaust parts...so i never had to do any experimenting like you are wanting to.

the problem or the issue is space. is there enough straight piping/clearance to fit two large resonators? the largest resonator is quite long. and to fit two of them might be a problem. you could def. play with the sizing of them...grab one long and one short...but the exhaust shops would do that for you... they will be able to tell you if you can fit two by measuring

Try not to put to much faith in what someone says , who immediately follows that advice with "I've never done that".

that said,

His regurgitated assertions are correct, to a point. But Our cars aren't such unique delicate unicorns , that similar set ups won't sound the same across the board.

I did a stage 1, just removed the mid muffler. It has a very understated growl and sounds really good. Friends comment on the quiet but aggressive tone. It's how the car should sound from the factory.

I have some type S mufflers I'm going to have put on and the resonator removed. Possibly add a Mflow res later if I get raspy.

I'm also considering some HKS hi flow canisters. There a video on you tube , sounds beautiful.

well, not every one is going to have the SAME exact set up.
the group of TL's i hang out with... we're all TL's with varying amounts of mods.
they're all going to have a distinct sound to them almost where you can tell whose car it is.

I've done a bit experiment with this on my TL. First I did a stage 1 (mid-muffler removal), and was barely loud so I went ahead and did stage 3 mod (replaced stock resonator with dynomax res), and at that time I thought it made a great sound, but over time after couple years, I kind of got tired of the sound, and wished it was a bit quieter. Since I also have a cold air intake on mine, it gets loud in the cabin with heavy throttle. So I decided to take it a muffler shop and asked them to simply make it quieter. They ended up removing the straight pipe and replaced it with a resonator (looks a little longer than the dynomax res), the dynomax resonator is still on there, so I have two resonators now. The sound it makes now is just perfect for my taste, it sounds more like a quieter version of stage 3 sound. Another thing I noticed is the car feels a bit quicker now, maybe adding that resonator builds some back pressure thus more torque. I will make a video shortly and put a link in here.

Thanks Kevin17112! The video would be really helpful. A quieter version of the stage 2/stage 3 exhaust is what I've been looking for, and obviously since your system has 2 resonators I wouldn't have to worry about both of them fitting. Can't wait to hear it!

I made a exhaust sound video with stage 3 mod a day before adding the second resonator.

Two resonators a.k.a stage 0.5 mod sound video coming soon....

It's not as loud as stage 2 or 3 but it is a bit louder than stock which is what I was going for anyway. I also have injen CAI, so it sounds really throaty in the cabin, I love it.

Thank you very much for posting that video Kevin! It saves me a lot of wondering. I like the sound of it, but i think if I used 2 of the Dynomax resonators it would be closer to what I want. I know you said the muffler shop put in a resonator slightly longer than the dynomax, so I think if i used 2 Dynomax Resonators it would be a little louder. So I'm thinking either that, or removing the mid-muffler and the 3rd cat and leaving the OEM resonator in.

Now I'm really curious what two dynomax resonators would sould like. lol

That's the problem. I feel like no matter what exhaust modifications I do, I'll always be wondering if I could make it sound better...

Yep, like justnspace said, it literally is experimentation to find that perfect sound that is suitable for you. Everyone has a different taste.
