Disappointing Dyno Numbers!

I just came from a dyno shop that has a Dynojet. My last visit I got 241.46hp/222.29tq. After installing pro-cats and the P2R spacer, I only got 248.21hp/225.15tq. I thought I would get better results than that. I definitely feel the car has alot more power than it's reading. Any thoughts?

your low end power was bumped up very high, overall power went up just a tiny bit.

Now you have a wider power band (which is a great thing). Thats the biggest effect of those mods; power goes more towards low-end.

Was it the same dyno? Same conditions? Were the original numbers uncorrected? There are a lot of factors when dynoing a car and if the car feels significantly faster then you should know there was a difference. Also each dyno is different. Dynos are really tuning tools and used for reference.

Yes, it was the same dyno. The last time I had the car dynoed was back in January of this year. The temp was 62F, 30.05 in-Hg, humidity 22%, and SAE 0.96. This time temp was 67F, 29.89 in-Hg, humidity 8%, and SAE 0.97. I was more impress last time when I had a 11hp and 10tq jump from stock numbers.

Well I have over 59k miles on the car with the original clutch. Could it be that it's starting to show it's age? It's seems to be operating fine though.

Do you have the same wheels as last time too? A larger wheel could offset the numbers? I remember Nitro with the AEM CAI and Pro Cats made about 267whp IIRC. Try resetting the ECU too and doing another dyno.

Also what kind of mid range and low end power and torque did you make?

Angry

They are just dyno numbers, does it really matter if it made 10 or 20 more whp no. If you have a broader hp and torque range the car will accelerate faster and be faster so peak numbers dont mean sh!t. Ive never dyno'ed either of my cars and i can tell you what each one of them would put down within 5% but again it depends on each dyno and its calibration. The only good use for dynos is just tuning which obviously you cant do.

Yes I still have stock wheels on my car. No change there. After I installed the P2R and the procats, I did disconnected the battery for a while. Doesn't that reset the ECU? According to my dyno sheet, the low end and midrange hp/tq didn't gain that much. The power was alot broader though. Once the shop send me electronic copies of the dyno, I will post it.

Point taken. As I said before, I feel the extra power. In that since, I'm happy.

that what matters you know the parts increased performance and you verified it by the dyno.

well... FYI , my opinion

you've increased the air flow out of the block greatly, going from 900 cell/in to 200 cell/in CATS... ... you've increased air flow into the motor (CAI)...

now you need to increase the air flow out of the ass of your car... EXHAUST !!!

paired with cats & CAI, the exhaust will definitely get you up to 260whp... im pretty sure nitrotiger had the comptech catback installed too

I'm sure an aftermarket exhaust will do wonders, but I wasn't trying to go that route. I like the quietness of my TL, plus I like the look of the stock exhaust tip. I also wanted the sleeper look.
I'm pretty much done with modding this car performance wise. I'm more than satisfied with the performance if anything.

maybe a mid-muff and/or resonater delete will help.. but that will def.add some sound to the car.. especially on WOT

Just a quick question - do all of these mod's require a reflash of the car's computer? Do they cause the engine light to stay permanently on?

Eh, barely if any. Go with a custom fabbed exhaust or the ATLP

You shouldn't get any check engine light at all. I've never seen it. The procats was a direct replacement which the O2 sensors screw in the same way as stock. The only way you would get an engine light if you have some sort of an intake or exhaust leak.

Yeah, maybe after I get some rims. And that is a ways off.
