Custom straight pipe exhaust for supercharged TL...need some opinion

I am about to get a custom exhaust made. It will be a straight pipe exhaust with or without the 2 E-shift precats, custom J pipe, and a Magnaflow straight through resoantor.

It should be a very high flow exhaust with no 3rd cat and no muffler in between. I am still deciding if i should leave the 2 E-shift high flow cats or change them to straight pipe as well.

The question now is, do you guys think I should go with 2.5" pipe or 3" pipe to get the most power from my 3.5L supercharged engine?

E-Shift is working on a custom J pipe for you supercharged guys. They saw some great gains. Wait for a little bit and I'll get you more info.

That sounds great! I would definitely be interested in a custom J pipe made by E-shift. Just about how long do we have to wait for this come through tho? Track season have started and I don't want to miss any of it !

i think 2.5" is more than enough.

p.s. i've been to e-shift personally, they did a custom catback for my car. guys there are awesome and work is top notch. it's worth the 2 hour drive.

I think you will lose power with the 3in straight through exhaust unless you have a turbo, 2.5in all around is more like it for our application, but than again I guess if you don't try it you'll never know especially now that you have a 3.5L to work with!

Does anyone know if the custom J pipe from E-shift will be 2.5" or 3"? If it's 2.5" then I guess no point to make the rest of the pipe 3".

i have a feeling that a 3" J-Pipe would lose power. i think i read somewhere that comptech did a hi-flow headers, and the car actually lost power.. i'm not too sure though..

i dont understand why the headers made the car lose power? that is something i would REALLY REALLY love to invest in. some nice SS headers... on the old TL and other hondas you generally get about 21+ hp gains....

josh, do you know of anything in the makes with headers?

Guys you gotta understand that bigger isn't always better, you gotta consider the engine output, aspiration, exhaust flow, exhaust temperature and exhaust velocity! If the exhaust pipe is too large and there isn't enough gas pushing through, the exhaust gas will cool and slow down, and you don't want that, that's when you lose power. You want the gas to stay as hot as possible and get out of the pipes as fast as possible. In my humble opinion the 3in anything in the TL is overkill, it's not a twin-turbo Supra.

Be patient the E-shift will come out with their j-pipe soon, watch Excelerate, but keep in mind that they are very busy and have many other projects! I can't talk about all the details but I can say that the j-pipe will be as great as the cats and I'm not just talking about the peak power gains, so it's definitely worth a wait. And it's not going to be a 3in pipe either if the final product is going to be anything like my test pipe, which is about 2.5in diameter at most-just right!

With your current test pipe, do you guys have the 3rd cat in or was it replaced with a straight pipe.

Would it be possible for E-shift to make the custom J pipe so that it replaces the 3rd cat as well and just simply bolt up to the exhaust?

Who? Me? I have been there before with the TL. There is a lapping day on May 21st and I might attend that, provided that my car is ready.

Or are you talking about drag race?

Oh i thought you meant Pacific International Raceway near Seattle. I haven't been to the Portland one yet. It's quite a long drive from Vancouver. Maybe I will ask a few friends to all go down for a trip in the summer.
