Custom Exhaust to Stock Mufflers?

Has anyone tried to make a custom 2.5" or even 3" exhaust from the j-pipe back(if you removed your cat) and still use your stock exhaust?

Here is the exact example I am thinking of going with. My goal is to get the maximum amount of HP, while keep the stock look, and being as quiet as possible(near stock noise level).

RV6 HFPC's/J-Pipe combo, to
2.5" 304 stainless tubing with mandrel bends, with
2.5" Magnaflow 18" resonator (4" round body), to
Stock rear mufflers.
*** All tubing from the HFPC's back to the rear muffler will be 2.5" diameter ***

Maybe try this kit

Or have a shop build you a custom mid section. I'm not sure how bad it chokes down at the rear split but I know it goes from a single 2.25 to dual 2". The stock mufflers are straight through, what really chokes them is the pipe diameter, that's why the catbacks that go up a size gain about 10HP.

WOW, that is exactly what I was looking at, that very website.
I am thinking by going 2.5" from the engine all the way back to the rear mufflers....even if it does go down to 2.25" as it enters the fufflers I might lose 2hp or so, but still have the stock look, and hopefully half way quiet. If I could 8whp and tq out of this setup, I would be more than happy.

I got under my car today and measured the oem exhaust piping. This is what I found..... Right about the middle of the car the tubing is 2.25" when you get closer to the rear of the car, right before it Y's off, the piping is 2.65" but its not round. It more like an oval or egg shaped(2.65" from one angle, but maybe less that 2.25" from the other angle). After the Y and where it goes into the stock muffler the piping is 1.75" and this is the exact and dimensions. I ordered my custom exhaust piping and magnaflow resonator today. I need to see if they make a 2.5" into 1.75" adapter that I can clamp together, I dont want to weld. If not then I will have to look for another solution.
