Comptech Exhaust Installed (Video Inside)

So since I bought my TL, I always thought it was too quiet. I tried:

- Resonator and mid muffler delete (Made it sound more like a G35, but not quite what I was looking for)

- Put on a RV6 V3 J-Pipe (Louder, but still not good enough)
- Put on the RV6 V3 PCDs (Crazy loud and raspy which I didn't mind, but everyone said sounded like )

Thread here with videos of the J-Pipe and PCD (https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=813750)

Which brings me to now. The other day I picked up a Comptech exhaust off mrlal8. I brought it to my friends shop to get put on last night hoping that it was going to be nice, deep, and loud. Unfortunately I must say it isn't as loud as I thought it was going to be. It does sound a lot louder on the outside than inside (even with the windows down), but I'm not satisfied.

Either this week or the next I will be cutting out the mid muffler of my Comptech and replacing it with a 2.5" straight pipe. Hopefully then I will be happy with my car.

sounds pretty decent to be honest. i think the comptechs have the best noise in overall for luxury sedans such as ours. not too loud, not too ricy and zero drone.

1000x better than your hacked up stock exhaust setup, sounds great! Plan on the same setup as soon as i get the funds.

Thanks for sharing these videos.

Sounds raspy to me which is NOT how i've ever heard a comptech exhaust sound. They're always mellow /deep very smooth. Your set-up tends to sound as if you had fart can mufflers back there. It def doesn't sound like a G35 exhaust, not even a TSX with an exhaust from Greddy/Apex-i exhaust.

This is a 05 TL with ATLP J-Pipe and CAI and it sounds like I would have expected oyurs to sound but it def is the way I know Comptechs exhaust to sound on TL...

Sounds great. The comptech is made to be quiet at idle, but scream when its WOT.

IMO this car sounds nothing like a G35 when the 3rd muffler/resonator is deleted. The PCD's didn't help with that stuff done either..again, sounds amazing as it stands now.

The comptech actually has a small muffler in the middle and its not a resonator so it will sounds the same but louder with this deleted.

To my knowledge I have never seen this done and you will be the first to hack up a $900 exhaust to make it sounds louder, lol. Post up a video when you do it, I'm excited.

come on OP, this sounds soooo nice. well i dont like rasp but that is something i could definately live with to get the power gains. and it sounds 1000000000000000000000000 times better than what you had before, but honestly now you are gonna mess up a nice exhaust, if the rasp didnt bother you i dont see why you spent the money on the comptech, now even worst gonna cut it up too...lol. as long as you are happy with your ride then f**k what others say. i would just sell that comptech exhaust and put on your old set-up if it really didnt bother YOU. thats what i would do. anyways good luck and thanks for posting, i think thanks to this vid i am more likely to buy these now, i think my ride with tsudo exhaust will sound close to your car now and i can deal with that little rasp.

you were expecting the comptech to be loud?? if you want loud, then get a greddy (if you can find one). if you want louder than comptech but not as deafening as the greddy then go with ATLP or XLR8.

there are SOOOOO many threads on exhaust comparisons on AZ for the 3G. its been debated to death in terms of noise and performance.

and youtube has some good clips of each.

i say sell the comptech rather than hack it up (i'm sure there is a member on here that would be happy to take it off your hands) and get one of the other 3.

for this car, the comptech, is a good choice with a good tone at WOT and nice and tame for around town driving without pissing off the po-po or your neighbors. i've been looking into a catback so i've read A LOT of stuff on here. G/L.

Dude it Sounds fucken sick. Much louder on ur car than mine because I didn't have pcds. The only reason I sold my base xlr8 and got the comptech was so I could get the pcds. Now I have decided I don't need the power so I wanted to go with quads. The way your car sounds right now is exactly the tone I wanted before purchasing the comptech

Thanks for the vid. I was wanting to hear what the RV6 V3 PCD's & j-pipe were going to sound like with a stock TL-S exhaust. I'm guessing mine will split the difference between what it is now and what yours is, which is about perfect for me. Now I just have to wait for the PCD's to get here!

Sound is one thing, but I think it sounds pretty good. It's a little raspy for me. But you should really care not just only about sound but how it performs as well. I would hate to think you just wasted your money on something new and shiny just for a sound and not to make more performance.

They're tons and tons of threads. And it is pretty self explanatory. Make sure to put some WD40/JB Weld on the bolts overnight so it is easier if you don't have air tools.

This is an old thread, but if your Comptech Exhaust is not as 'loud' as you want, get the Aero resonator put on. Make it sounds more aggressive.

It sounds nice minus the rasp from the PCD's IMO. If anything, I rather spend the money on having a shop swap out the tips for those quad tips that many members have on their stock exhaust .
