OP its easy just a bit time consuming for just installing a CAI.

There are some youtube vidoes.

Also what part of Texas?

Shops will probably charge you about $100 +/-

CAI was the easiest mod when no bumper had to be taken off. Today's car, the engine is so compact that you almost have to take off bumper, battery, tire, etc just to access the amount of room for intake.

But since it's a TL/S, the engine space isn't that tight and could be easily be done in 30 min with the front bumper off.

^when installing mods, its all about what makes it easier to install.

the front bumper drops in less than 10 mins.

what happens if you're fighting for 60 mins trying to install it without dropping the bumper???

which one is really easier?

I dont see how you would get the resonator out without the bumper off. And also relocating the grounds for the cai bracket. I cant even imagine.

^texas doesnt give a fuck about mods.
I'm running a catless exhaust.
my car stinks like a motherfcuker and still passes emissions! lol

with that being said, the cold air intake is one of the least mods of your worries.
it has nothing to do with emissions at all.

Dont waste that much on a CAI. Just get one from ebay, something around $100, or just do the resonator delete.

There are threads on which CAI to get and how to remove a resonator.

It's possible to do it without removing the bumper... I did mine. But had to drill out the rivets on the resonator... If I do it again, bumper is coming off

i was ever soo bored with the limited parts made for the S so i decided to swap out my Takeda CAI for a AEM v2 yesterday. the difference is night and day. the takeda was quieter and fit perfect but the aem v2 have soo much tq and horses. I can bareley steer the car straight when i accelerate. The aem v2 is also louder, much much louder..dunno if i like the xtra noise.

I like Texas. A friend of mine moved to Austin a year ago. He had to get Texas plates because with the CA plates he was getting tickets for things like 3mph over the speed limit. No tickets since. I'm going to be in Austin for the first time in February to visit, I can't wait.

It makes more noise so you think it's faster. It's placebo. Nothing more.

You can't draw that conclusion because you don't know that it's actually quicker and if by some miracle it was (which it isn't) you wouldn't know if its from better airflow or colder air. I have done the tests and the stock paper filter and intake pose no measurable restriction. How is putting a higher flow intake going to help performance when the one it replaced was not a restriction? The air is not colder either. Once the air inlet is outside of the engine bay it's all the same.

Once upon a time a few hp were left on the table from the factory from inlet tract restriction and hot air induction like a short ram but not with the TL. The inlet tract is to muffle induction noise, filter the air, and deliver reasonably cool air while not having to worry about hydro lock. The TL's filter is plenty big to not only be of no restriction when new, it's large enough to not be a restriction after years of service. The air box and resonator act as a muffler without causing restriction. The inlet is from outside of the engine bay to deliver cool air but it has a break in the engine bay so any water or large debris will not make it to the filter. This is the one area where a CAI could possibly show a few hp. Under some conditions, most likely slow speed stop and go the CAI might deliver slightly cooler air. These gains are barely measurable and definitely not noticeable in a 3,500lb car.

Someone on here did the temp tests and showed that CAI really doesn't deliver cooler air over stock and I've done the pressure tests that show the stock system is not a restriction.

Let's not forget having the filter outside of the engine bay has no benefit and a ton of negatives. The filter should be protected in the engine bay. The air filter is the most important filter in the car and poor filtration like many aftermarket filters offer shows up as excessive upper cylinder and ring wear. In a dusty area this is a real concern over time.

I've seriously thought about designing a proper CAI for the TL that's not a cookie cutter CAI but one that's done right with no drawbacks.

i have an AEM intake. They are originators of the CAI. And i most definetly can feel the difference. And when it hits second gear it roars.! In a good way. Not like a riced up honda
