I think its a waste of money, as is painting parts under the hood to match the body.
Just being honest because you asked.
Truthfully I think the CAI prices are insane, and you can get a lot more for your money elsewhere. Just mod the stock intake.

1) it looks like shit unless you paint the sides, so thats another 200-300 dollars and you should paint the grill......(unless you have a black car which it seems you do)
2) it rattles like crazy cause its so light unless you get hood pins
3) what are you trying to do by buying it...make the car lighter? I think you started with the wrong car if thats your end goal
700 dollar hood vs. new j pipe/race pipe and hell even a RSB.....if youd pick the hood over the other 3 in terms of priority, again...you would be mistaken
on another note I would gladly take one for free, but this should be pretty low on the mod importance list if you ask me.

Fishers area is nice....hard to find places like that in Indiana....I do not plan on being there much longer....just gotta finish my masters at IU and then I am out of there haha

lol you think paying 500 dollars for a CF hood is worth the money for the TL?

1) they don't look like shit. if you get a well known quality brand, they add a lot to the car's appearance. plus if you have other CF accents (heads/tails/etc) it helps tie everything together. plus i do have a black car, so it works out well.
2)mine does not rattle whatsoever and i don't have hood pins.
3)i got it bc they look nice and i was able to trade my stock hood for it.
not everyone has a CF hood on their 3rd gen TL...it makes mine that much different from the one next to me. plus i already have every performance mod imaginable so why not? i would not buy a CF hood OVER a jpipe. i'd just buy them both.

i think if something is important to you, than the price tag should not change your mind. if you want to spend $500 for a CF hood...go for it.

To me it seems the OP is asking about a performance mod....last time I checked the CF hood was not a performance mod (if you argue it is because of the weight reduction I will make it a point to find your hood and smack it with a giant sledgehammer)
On a WDP for example, the CF Hood looks shitty IMO and MANY other members on this forum will agree unless you do what stvtec did. Add a CF vinyl top to the roof and yea it could look pretty badass...
Not everyone can just buy whatever they want....I am glad you can, must be nice....if you took time to read my post I was saying in terms of prioritizing (for those of us who can't just buy anything and everything for our TLs) the CF should rank very low on your list. On my list unless I can get the sucker for 200 dollars or less I wouldn't bite, otherwise I dont think its worth the money. Its purely for looks and will dent and chip easier than your initial hood..personally I would go for the window visors over a CF hood for looks, paint match them to your car and that will set your car apart from many other as well.
To each his own, but from the OPs perspective, I highly doubt CF hood was even on his radar...I am glad you like your CF hood but I dont see it being a smart or rational investment unless you get it for free or some reduced price....and btw, since you have EVERY performance mod, I will assume you have pre cat deletes too? J&R Turbo as well with a meth kit? If i had enough money to do all that then hell yeah CF Hood would be next on my list...

Some kids just started an IU Auto Club.....I now rock the IUAC sticker across my back window...Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-Hoosiers! Maybe we can compete in football again since they finally go to the bottom of those cheating rat bastard buckeyes....

IMO.

And IMO, wrong again....once I take my photos you'll be adding them to your list of mods...not gonna lie they are the most commented on thing about the car, since they are matched WDP.
To each his own I guess, I personally think a CF hood is pretty ricey as I do not want someone thinking this is a track car, no need for the CF....if i wanted CF, I would buy an LFA....(if I had .5 mil)

So we can agree, to each their own, except for eyelids.
And I promise you I will not be installing rain guards, but I'm glad you are happy with yours and continues to show everyone has different taste in aesthetics.

and yeah it's soooper nice being able to buy whatever i want whenever i want. being me is pretty awesome.
yeah i have precat deletes and 2 J&R turbos on my type-s. do you?
I only said the CF hood was a waste of money and looked ugly unless you 1) got it for a good deal and 2) painted it the way you do....since you did both of those not sure what you are arguing about there....

and no i won't be adding paint-matched window visors to my car after you post pics of them. i think they are hideous.
CF hood's are not ricey. they look really nice on particular colors. plus, how many TL's do you see with a CF hood? not many. of course this is all just my opinion. you have yours and i have mine, right?

I wouldn't say a CAI is "worthless". You get a few HP, it does sound good and it looks good under the hood.
Whether that's worth ~$200 is a personal opinion.
I would buy again.

It's not the most cost effective mod, but after the pcd's/hfc's and J Pipe, if you're getting one whp per $100 you're lucky. I mean a cat back costs $1,000 for what, 7-8 whp? CAI is actually more cost effective.
#29
Do yourself a favor and regardless of the pipe brand, buy an AEM dry flow filter or an equivalent. Not having to oil the thing is super awesome and it can be washed with laundry detergent and ready to go in 30 minutes.
a CAI is handy for 6MT owners since you dont have to remove anything to get to the MT fluid fill plug.

In all the time I've been on here, I haven't seen anything about this. Do you have a post in mind where this is done? Does it actually do any good?
As far as the AEM Dry filters, how are they rated as far as filtering abilities? I've seen a few tests of paper filters, K&N and a few other brands, just not AEM's Dry filter. I used to use the K&N in my older vehicles with no problems, just didn't want to use them now as I see how poorly they do filter.
I'm not looking for a new intake to use the filters, just hoping one would work in as a drop in solution.

Win with wilson, baby. and i never knew we had an auto club, maybe i'll join this fall i've definitely seen a couple of those cars around campus especially that m6 + a couple modded TL's
#34
Yea theres mine plus another dark grey one who rock the stickers, and yes....most of those kids are not from this country and drive M3's. M5's M6's and any other import car over 60K

Wat! Very common DIY free mod, not only on the TL but on every car I have ever owned. You remove the "silencer" box and reassemble the stock intake parts to keep it drawing air from in front of the wheel well inside the front bumper. Gives you a bit of that intake sound, without spending $300.
