CEL due to PCD
CEL due to PCD
Has anyone else with PCD been getting a check engine light? I installed my PCD about 4 months ago. 2 months after installation I get a CEL for the O2 sensor, bank 1 sensor 2. I go to advance auto and the nice girl reset the light. Today I get another CEL so I return to advance but the guy says that he will not reset the CEL because it is against company policy for some reason. Is there anything I can due to prevent this from happening again?
I was thinking about just buying the scan gauge so I can reset it myself.

its either, the 02 sensor itself. the wiring/harness and or the defouler not aimed correctly.

I want to add SEAFOAM to this....
recently i had the codes come on (after 2 years of owning the PCD's)....I ran some seafoam and the codes were gone....i didnt have to reset the ECU this time around....
but i have made it a habit to reset my ECU after every mod I do on the car....and let it relearn the idle process....

Thanks guys. I just disconnected my battery to do the hard reset. Will this turn the CEL off or do I need to get the OBD II tool to reset it since it has already been tripped?

^^^ NO resetting (disconnecting the battery) will remove the codes....thats all you need to do....
keep your radio/navi codes handy....and FOLLOW the relearn process....
start the car
turn the AC OFF
and let it sit without touching the throttle for 4-5 minutes

Secondary o2 is strictly used for emissions, primary o2 is where all of the fueling is done. You might need a new OEM sensor if it's shot. Most of the time this is tell you that you are running rich/lean.
I did the reset and took the car for a spin. Check engine light is gone and everything seems in order. I'm not sure how I could have possibly installed the PCD wrong, everything seemed pretty straight forward. Thanks for everyone's input

^^^ sharky beat me to it....
what a defouler does is, it limits the entry of gases for your O2 sensor to sniff....hence the 2ndary o2 sensor thinks everything is fine.....

excellent, thought thats what it was, the funny part is I think I used that word in my response to someone else about using it when plugging the AEM sensor into the engine bay... I think my brain is turning into mush... need another 3 day weekend

P0159
Bank 2 sensor 2 (downflow)
Circuit is reading slow is the explanation on the scan gauge
Some are getting both codes or some are getting just 1 (either bank)...
I've been getting this code for... a while. I've just been leaving them on there until there is a real solution. Ps. How can you install the defoulers so they don't set off the CEL?

Well the defoulers are used so the code doesnt come on....i didnt have the code for 2 years and recently got it....running seafoam clears it but on some occasions the code(s) come back....need to do a little more research....
For the P0159 and P0139 codes you can try giving your defouler one turn in. To pick up more of the exhaust stream. Enlarging the orifice to the defouler may also work. But this should only be tried after you maxed out the dept of the defouler. With each hole size we start with at zero turns where you turn in the defouler where it barely protrudes and back up one turn. I might get a code 3-4 times a year I usually just clear it and go on my way.
I've seen this happen to a lot of people who have header install (not a TL) and after awhile this code comes on. It's normal as it's just telling you that more air is going out than normal and the stock ECU only was set at a certain point . But if it can also be from not installing it correctly, a leak, fell/dropped, bent, broke, dead o2.
But my point was it could be anything not knowing what his driving habbits to issues as every car is different to diagnose without a datalog, most EMC would eliminate this CEL and most of the time, people are just running lean/rich making their o2 shot.
Even if they buy a new o2, it will be shot, so it's really no point in buying one if it's going to be dead in another month or so. The car might just needs to get tuned or if he has an intake, to go back to the stock intake (I've seen aftermarket intakes give weird A/F readings on a DBW TB).
You'll get me in no time, just takes lots of thinking/patience and you'll understand.
