CAI without any further exhaust mods?
Hey all, was wondering if any of you think there are any downsides to just a CAI mod without a high flow exhaust. I've never heard of anything until I spoke with a guy at a speed shop in NJ. Seems logical that adding additional performance exhaust compoents would be in order, but to say that it may do harm, was surprising. My intent was to install the AEM V2 in my '04 5AT as one of my first mods.. Thanks for your help!

It won't do anything bad to your car unless you somehow butcher the install which is really hard to do. The engine is a big air pump pretty much so the more air you take in it would be logical to open up the exhaust a bit more. What some people do would be the third cat delete. That can help a bit. You can go full exhaust if you want later on but if you dont feel like it now I think a third cat delete would be enough for you.

Guys, thanks for the quick replies, I appreciate it... One question, though, does the third CAT deletes affect the emmissions to the point where it may fail inspection? Do you need to alter anything in the engine mgt,. system or does the car automatically compensate for that at all?

Nope. Its just there for extra cleanliness. No sensors monitor it its just there. The main sensors monitor the two cats that come straight out of your header those are the main ones. The third is just there to make it even cleaner so it wont effect emissions testing.
