CAI in Wisconsin winters
CAI in Wisconsin winters
I was thinking of putting an AEM CAI in my '06 and was wondering if that would be a bad idea due to all of the snow and wet weather we experience up here? I did read through some of the threads in 3G garage relating to this topic but could not find a definitive answer so I apologize in advance if this has been answered elsewhere.
Are you thinking of the v1 or v2 AEM intake? If you get the V1, then you can add on the bypass valve and you won't have a problem. But you shouldn't have a problem with the V2 either. I'm in CO and have the V2. We've had some crappy weather as of late, but all is good. The 3G TL has very good splash shields, and very little space for water to get to the filter. I was worried about weather too honestly, but after being through serious rain, and several snowstorms/crap weather & wet roads afterwards, no issues. The filter isn't that low either (Fujita sits lower I believe). Hope this helps ya. Just watch out for standing water and you're fine...main thing is to keep the filter from getting submerged. As long as you keep it from swimming, you're good.
Appreciate the insight. Yeah, I don't plan on submerging my car anytime soon so I don't foresee that being a problem. I think I'll definitely opt for the v2. I'm not planning on doing the mod until spring anyway just trying to gather as much info as I can until then. Thanks again.
I have ran mine through 3 Canadian winters with slop , slush , snow and rain with no issues at all and its the V1 with no bypass. like said above just don't submerge the filter totally.
i live in chicago and have ran my k&n all winter thus far with zero issues at all. as long as your still running fender liners, i see little to no chance of the filter getting wet unless the front end is submerged in water.
From a fellow WI person you will have zero issues. There is shielding and fender liners to keep the crap out of there. I have had them on all of my cars that i have owned and never had any issues. Just use your head and dont drive into water you dont know how deep it is.

I'm in Jersey. I've had the AEM V1 intake on my car for 2 years with not one single problem. Those 2 years have been some of the worst in NJ's history with extremely cold temps in the winter, extreme heat in the summer, lots of snow and rain, and never any problems.

...and I wouldn't consider NJ having extreme heat, humidity on the other hand most def.
I can't say our summers are that bad. We did have a couple days last summer when it got to 105, and the humidity is usually pretty high here in the summer months. These winters here in NJ have been getting bad though. Those are definitely extreme. It has me considering relocating, maybe to Dallas where my brother lives. He tells me its warm there year round.
Not sure which model Injen we have on the wifes car (04), but it's the big ol aluminum tube that dumps down into the front of the fender with the oil free filter with outer wears filter over the top. Got the car in 07 and it has been through every winter and 150,000mi since and no issues. I clean it every April and then again before winter in late Oct early Nov when the snow tires go on.
I notice some marks on the inside of the tube where she has sucked some moisture in, but no issues with the car and it just hit 180k and going strong.
