Brake Service when?

I recently had taken my 08 TL for service, I have 14200 miles on the odo - in the inspection sheet that the dealer gives, brake pad thickness remaining on all the pads is 7mm except the front right which is 8 mm. Does this difference of 1mm indicate something could be wrong? or is it normal to have uneven wear? Or could it be an inaccuracy in measurement? When I asked the service advisor he recommended brake system service ($149) because a caliper could be jammed, however if that was the case I would have had one set of brake pads wearing significantly more than the other 3 and not the other way round, right? Also when should the trans fuid be changed?

Thanks for the help!

That 1mm is no problem and remember that the recommended brake fluid change is every 3 years, but many don't adhere to the policy and don't have a problem; then again, it can't do any harm to have the service performed, except to your wallet.

You'll find that on the single piston caliper the inboard and outboard pads will wear at a different rate if you're easy on the brakes. That is normal and should be no cause for alarm. I don't think too highly of a dealer/service writer when they resort to scare tactics by using the old stuck caliper cliché. It would better their reputation if they just stated that the brake fluid change is every 3 years, but I guess everyone is out to pad their pockets in this economy.

Trans fluid change in normal driving is 100,000 miles, but if you read the threads posted you'll get shell-shocked as some recommend every oil change. No going to start another debate on the ATF, but just posted the factory schedule.

Thanks turbonut! My car does not turn 3 until september but I have 20% of coupon from the dealer so might get it done before the coupon expires. I don't mind spending on the brakes to ensure safety but I hope they don't mess up the brakes instead :P Good to know I don't need to worry about the 1 mm difference!!
I didn't the interval for transmission fluid change was 100K miles!! Thats long...I guess it would also depend on the kind of driving - highway versus city etc.

14,000 miles, don't worry about the pads yet or the dealership will nickle and dime you to death when they get you hooked!
