Boosting TL 2004

I wanna turbocharged my TL but don't wanna drop the 5 thousand for the j&r kit to do it. I was fortunate enough to have a Acura TL for my first car
but in result of that is my lack of experience modding cars, my question is is it possible to just build your own turbo kit for the tl and if so it would be cheaper to do it this way? am i right? or is it not even a option meaning the only way is to go with the j&r kit.... My dad owns a shop so we would be installing it, so I wouldn't be dropping money for some mechanic to install it,

If this is a stupid question just lemme know, thanks

You will spend 5k easily if you want to do it correct.

I learned the hard way.... My buddies and I were drinking Jack Daniels at my house and I came across a used JnR kit for around 3500. However, I also had to get a bunch more goodies to go along with it. I was about half way done the kit little did I know. My friends started egging me on and calling me out so of course i sent in a $1000 deposit and thats when it all went downhill from there.

Im not saying dont turbo the car. But honestly you dont really want to put a tight budget on it. Its one thing after another that I need that of course I overlooked at first and decided I wanted as fail safes, sensors, backups and even some cosmetics so I turned a $3500 purchase into a $10,000+ turbo build and im not even done yet. Parts for this car are VERY expensive. These arent civics or integras where you can do a quality turbo setup for 3 grand. Everything from start to finish is custom and requires time and money to do right. You will also have to think about tuning which will run you $1200+ and thats if you can tune it yourself. Add another $4-700 for a good tune.

I'm all for more people boosting their cars or doing awesome insane builds, it just comes at a cost. Sure I got carried away, but who says you wont too

simply put, if you arent fabricating the pipes yourself, you wont save money.

p.s. it takes some knowledge to figure out how to fab up the turbo pipes

Very, very, VERY , very true.

Lets not forget about TIME as well. Time that must be invested in order to be sure that when you do get to the point of actually running the vehicle, you don't detonate the engine and destroy the engine within the first few days of running boost.
