Base 6MT Clutch Upgrade Options & Discussion

I know a few users have the Clutchmaster kit for the Accord or CL. How has this worked out for you guys? The existing threads are not conclusive on the performance and operation of this kit.

Heard on here the Spec clutches are not much of anything.

AASCO also makes a nice LW flywheel for the TL. Any other clutch manufacturers worth looking into, to mate on this?

Any AZ vendor input on available products?

Has anyone had a Spec clutch in a TL here? They were quite good in my Camaro...

I don't know what stage it was, but someone on here bought and returned a Spec brand clutch. Something about the pressure plate was just a painted OEM part.

Check out jandrnextlevelperformance.com they've worked with Competition Clutch to produce a Kevlar disc to work with oem flywheel & pressure plate to maintain stock pedal feel, but with disc is rated to hold somewhere around 300lbft of torque ...I'm currently testing disc right now..

I'm interested in an aftermarket setup as well.

Ussi had a Clutchmasters Clutch, but he had problems.

I don't know of any other aftermark clutches for our cars.

The Clutchmaster's setup works just fine for the TL's. We have spoken to Competition Clutch a number of times about the TL clutch setup over the past few years; supposedly it's in the works.

Is it just the flywheel, that is giving people trouble? I have heard of strange starting sounds and problems with shifting from members with both flywheel and clutch.

Can you elaborate a little bit more? How are the shifts/shift feel? How does it change the ride?

how much did it cost? how many pounds is the flywheel? how does the pedal feel? is it stiffer? i know the TL'S have a self adjusting clutch mechinism...does the new clutch effect the functionality at all?

+1. Also, I know that the site states this particular model (08-028-HDTZ-AL) comes with an aluminum flywheel, but is it possible to purchase the clutch without the flywheel? If so, what is the price without the flywheel?

Yes, Cluthmasters has a few packages. The ones without the LW flywheel require you to send in your OEM FW to get notched. The price includes the notching procedure at Clutchmasters.

That's a big draw back to that package, having to send a part in.

sorry for the late response to everyone! The TL rides better, it feels like its got some BALLZ! When i start the car, i noticed a different sound. My mechanic and others mentioned that since its a new flywheel, its goin to sound different. Everytime I shift, it doesnt lose ANY power and just takes off. The clutch & flywheel is 110& over stock so its not that big of a difference. The Clutchmasters stage 3 kit with flywheel from Excelerate is 1300 shipped. It comes with the clutch, pressure plate, alignment tool, pilot bearing, and flywheel. I will continue to update everyone as the days go by!

What other mods do you have on your car? Reason why I ask; I heard that have mods like underdrive pulley does mix well with lighten flywheel in certain cars. Some about decrease in drivability.

Would you happen to know what that price is?

Sorry, I meant that they do not mix well. I had that issue on my turbo eclipse when I had a lighten flywheel and underdriven pulley at the same time. I had little to no low end power which made the drivability bad. Can anyone else confirm this?

Since you don't have an underdriven pulley yet, I would research that to make sure you're will be ok.

Yes, and you can possibly crack your flywheel.

UPDATE: so on my way back from school, i decided that 150 miles into the new clutch, i should rip on it a little to feel it...each shift, the clutch immediatley grabs on, leaving no room for error. I noticed that in between shifts, the RPM's were not dropping as much which is great! Still got some more research to be conducted through out the next couple of days.....

If you have a UR Pulley, u shouldn't put on a lighter flywheel.

Your drivetrain lose all the momentum to push your flywheel so u lose low end torque

you have it backwards. get rid of the UR pulley and go for the lighten flywheel.

Here's a guy who can help you out with reviews and questions too b/c he has this kit on his Accord V6.

As he explained it to me, you can use either the Accord V6 kit or the CL-S kit. The CL-S kit has the setup on the flywheel for the crank sensors IIRC and the Accord kit doesn't. The TL has dual crank sensors and either kit should work. Just so everyone knows, can you confirm Sean?

CL-S kit has FW crank sensors. kit will work on CL-S, TL and accord.

TL/accord kit comes with no FW crank sensors. CL-S cannot use this kit.

the kit installed on my car is the CL-S kit. it came with the sensors, but took them off since they were useless.
