ATLP Mods vs TL-S

Hey,

So.. I've been a member of the forum for a while now, but I've been mostly reading up on the threads, but not commenting much... Anyways, I'm looking to buy a TL 2006 6mt, and I was wondering if the mod's below would make the TL faster than the TL-s.

I'm looking to put on the following (Numbers taken off AcuraTLparts.com).

ATLP Dual/Quad exhaust (No sure which one yet)
  • - Pre Data: Horsepower 250.3 Hp at 6250 rev/min. Torque 222.4 Tq at 5000 rev/min.
  • - Post Data: Horsepower 261.4 Hp at 6250 rev/min. Torque 231.9 Tq at 5000 rev/min.

ATLP J-Pipe:
  • - Pre Data: Horsepower 234.8 Hp at 6500 rev/min. Torque 204 Tq at 5500 rev/min.
  • - Post Data: Horsepower 241.9 Hp at 6250 rev/min. Torque 217.7 Tq at 5000 rev/min.

ATLP Race Pipe

Gain=??

AEM Cold Air Intake v2

Gain= About 6-7 whp?

Anyways, please give me your input on this.. Thanks!!

In order to get the TL even with the TL-S, you are going to need at least the following:

Cold Air Intake
J-Pipe
Cat Back Exhaust
Weight Reduction

You have to remember that the TL-S has an advantage with the extra .3 liters of displacement than the regular TL. The above will get you about even or a little faster than a TL-S. If the TL-S has anything done to it, then you of course won't stand much of a chance. FYI the TL puts down around 220-230 WHP and the TL-S does about 240-250 WHP.

Well for what it's worth, I have a 2005 TL and I did a straight way impromptu race with blackura_ny, who has the SH-AWD 2010 TL, which has 305 hp.

I had at the time:
RV6 pre-cat deletes
ATLP J-pipe
ATLP Hi-flow cat
ATLP quad exhaust
AEM CAI
TB spacer
UR pulley

He had: stock (lol)

a stock 2005 TL weighs 3575 lbs while the 2010 AWD TL weighs 3962.

I pulled ahead of him slowly throughout the strip.
Although his car weighs a lot more, i'm pretty sure with these mods you'll have an upper hand against a type-s.

And just as phee mentioned, it depends if you are against an auto or 6mt.

That's honestly mostly because 6mt's are just a whole bunch cooler

^^ don't forget that AWD cars have ridiculous drivetrain loss. so lets compare. Ur 2005 TL(im assuming 6mt) will have about 15% drivetrain loss putting u roughly @ 260whp with ur mods. Now his 2010 SH-awd tl will have about 25% drivetrain loss for the 6mt, and 30% drivetrain loss if automatic. So the 2010 tl will have about 230 whp to the wheels. Now since he has awd and has a nice amount of torque due to his larger displacement he has a easier time launching and can keep right next to u. however, since he does have less hp than u and weighs close to 400lbs more, u will be able to start pulling on him like u said u did, and eventually pass him.

with the following said i would love to see ur tl race his 2010 tl when he puts some more mods on.

I get a 14.0 with my 05 AT with the mods I have done. Sure it's an Auto. But hellovanAuto. ;D

Auto or not these things fly with those mods.

In the beginning I wanted the Manual more. But after modding it up and tightening the suspension and such. I am not in any way caring for the manual anymore. Depends on the driver. Always.

3G TL has a DCT transmission, Auto > Manual.

Which should be harder, to find/get a DCT transmission or change FWD to RWD in our cars, hmm.

OP - you should be faster than the TL-s with those mods. Add the PCDs to the mix and yes, you will walk away from one. This is all assuming you can drive

Yes I am pretty sure I can drive..

TL vs G35:

And I know this off topic but what do you guys think about the base 06 TL 6mt with all the mods I've listed against the 06 G35 coupe 6mt.

yeah auto is nice too i loved my automatic transmission when i had it too. just i find 6mt to be much more fun , and u get the most out of the mods u do with a manual.

plus, dude i would love to see some timeslips . i know sonnick has been hitting 14.0 consistantly with his 6mt accord coupe, and to see u pulling 14.0 with ur 5at auto, even though it is like 300-400 heavier, and has 5% more drivetrain loss is interesting.

I do not have dyno numbers yet. I did run 14.29 in the 1/4 mile when I was stock. You should beat a G35 c6MT coupe with your mods.
