Which cat are you installing? The precats coming off of the engine head ? Or, the third cat under the car ?

BTW - the oem 3rd cat does have a gasket on each end. The oem gasket for the oem 3rd cat is a soft-metal o-ring, which sits inside of a machined groove in the oem 3rd cat.

If you are installing the precats (next to the engine block), then you must have the sheet-metal gasket that fits between the engine head and the flange of the cat. This is a must. The gasket should be purchased from a Honda or Acura dealership.

For the gasket that fits between the precat and the j-pipe, you can use

Permatex® Ultra Copper® Maximum Temperature RTV Silicone Gasket Maker

Also, you can use the same Permatex for both ends of the 3rd cat.

This Permatex is purchased at any auto parts store.

If you need this Permatex tonight, you can go to Walmart. Because you are in a time bind, you can settle for any high temperature RTV gasket maker. It is not realy that critical. Just read the label/package of the gasket maker to make sure it is use for exhaust joints.

i was talking about my oem 3rd cat. it did not come with gaskets for sure so idk....

and i only put the only gasket that came with the high flow 3rd cat on the back.

will i have an exhaust leak?
and do you think i could buy a set at autozone or oreilly or something?

and id rather get real gaskets compared to some silicone glue or whatever.

it actually has O-ring gaskets that mate with the surface its being pushed against. i dont think you would need the gasket or the rtv if it has the ring gaskets in place.

Dude u got me lost... If ur running an upgraded jpipe and hiflow 3rd cat, you only need the gasket to mate to the exhaust?

If so the high heat gasket maker is perfect... I honestly preffer the gasket maker to one of the paper gaskets...

ill be getting the xlr8 j pipe soon
right now i have the stock j pipe with the atlp 3rd HFC and with the gasket connecting them
but to where the exhaust to the back of the 3rd HFC there is no gasket...
im asking if thats okay or is that normal because when i took off the stock 3rd cat there was no gaskets on either side connecing to the j pipe or the exhaust pipe

There was an oem gasket on both sides of the 3rd oem cat. The oem gasket is very hard to see if you don't know what to look for. If you look at either end of your 3rd oem cat, you will see a metallic o-ring squeezed within a machined groove in the flange. I forgot if the groove is in the cat flange or the flange on the pipes.

I recommend that you use the RTV gasket maker for now. Order the gasket kit from Richie (RV6). When you install your XLR8 jpipe, you can redo all gaskets with the new Richie (RV6) gaskets. BTW, the XLR8 jpipe will *not* come with any gaskets.... so, be sure to order them from Richie (RV6) if you are wanting real gaskets instead of the RTV as a permanent fix.

BTW - if you do use the RTV gasket maker, be sure to use an extremely small amount. Cut the plastic nozzle tip on the RTV tube so that it will dispense a bead that is only 1/16" in diameter. You want to make a bead that is approx half the diameter of a piece of spaghetti.
