Anyone install the Goodyear Gatorback on SC themselves

i can't get the belt around the last pulley (my original belt was chewed up)...anyone installed this...suggestions? otherwise i'll get my car towed to my mechanic courtesy of Acura Roadside. it seems like it needs to stretch like 3 inches to get around it

Best guess would start at the tensioner pulley- there has to be one on that belt
Release it and install belt. Tighten bolts- check install instructions for proper amount of deflection/slack and readjust if needed

^ release the tensioner pulley, as in unbolt it?

Without seeing it I have to speak in general
So yes
there should be a bolt that goes thru a slotted piece- thats the adjusters range
If its 1 bolt - loose and install belt- tighten
or 2 bolts- just like an alternator or anything else- one bolt holds it tight- the other is the adjuster- both need to be loosened the retighten
check deflection

Assuming you install the belt with a SC the same way you install the belt NA with an undersrive pulley...

The stock tensioner is spring loaded... Just put a ratchet on it and push towards the rear of the car... it'll slide slide back about 2 inches or so, allowing you enough slack to slide it on...

Exactly what Kennedy said, pull the tensioner pulley towards the rear of the car, and slide that belt on there. It may seem like there's no way in hell that it'll go on there, but with some effort, it goes on

AHHH
Thanks to the resident experts- I was thinking there may be the 3/8 drive ratchet hole on the tensioner-like a normal car- but on an Acura???
Had just watched a show where they installed a SC and it was bolt/slider tensioned

Hey ussi. U mentioned ur belt sheared off. U find out what caused it? I just finished installing my s/c last night & it ran fine for 10 min (quick run down the block). but then I jumped on the fwy, gunned it, & my belt freakin shreaded itself! Anyone got any input so I can make sure this doesn't happen again?

my belt was shredded on the right side, right where the last notch underneath the belt is..

honestly it just looked like a piece of the belt somehow slipped off by itself or more likely when the mechanic put it back on (it was removed and put back on 3 weeks ago..) In your case just check all the clearances to make sure its not touching anything (especially AC line) when you put it on again..

Have you check the tensionner pulley, does it rotate freely?

ok well I learned the hard way with about 5 friends of mine!!! it was the only thing I had to install on my car to actually make it work but it took alot of muscle get a tentioner and push it as far as it goes! the belt fits perfectly on it but we got it on took time and time but we got it in! we frist went through the bottom and pushed it into the smooth surface pulley

FYI,
when I bought my SC from blkypanman, he confessed the SC has a tendency to eat belts. He said his was getting schewed up in the 10K miles it was installed (and provided a new one). I think it's a "nature of the beast" kinda thing, and would be smart of everyone to keep a spare.

I was able to put it in..it just took a long ratchet and a lot of muscle.

i have a feeling that two of the pulleys aren't 100% Perfectly aligned (P/S and Blower) and it causes the teeth in the belt to wear..

Damn. I was gonna tell ya, noise = wear.

1 of 2 things...

1) Tensioner is failing

2) misaligned SC pulley

Something totally out of alignment
Look at the other pulleys and see which one has the wear marks on it
or a sharp edge or something like that
I was thinking a timing/strobe light would allow you to check it while running
but we have no ignition wire like older cars-

anyone know if you can tap into the ign signal for this purpose?

I found out why my belt got eaten alive the first night I had the s/c in; The blower drive pulley bolt was loose & had enough play to wigggle itself away from the motor, enough to allow the belt to slip off the blower idler pulley. The next day I tightened the drive pulley & put in a new belt & no problems yet. Peeps having problems I recommend checking this & make sure the blower is mounted/ aligned perfectly with the p/s pulley & make sure those mounting bolts are tight!

My mechanic and I aligned the belt as perfectly as we could, bolted and unbolted the screws on the blower, checked the adjustment on all the pulley bolts. After changing the drive belt AGAIN, I noticed the vibration noise was gone. I originally thought my blower was making that weird scraping noise, turns out to be the drive belt...It seems that the belt is EXTREMELY sensitive to small misalignments particularly on the idler pulleys (since that is easier to miss). I guess you want to adjust the belt making sure it is properly aligned on all the pulleys.

If you want a troublefree way to check the alignement, check out the following link;

http://www.amazon.com/DriveAlign-Las.../dp/B000AOGM8U

It's not cheap but maybe you can find a place to rent it for a few hours.

hah yeah! i thought of this! maybe i'll get one if i can use it for something else also, otherwise i can get 5 new belts for that price. Belts tearing is more an annoyance than anything else.
