Anyone have experience with aftermarket motor mounts?

I really want to get the aftermarket motor mounts for my 04, but I really love the luxury feel and the (now) only very slight vibration I have... I dropped my car off today to the shop doing my custom exhaust and discussed the guy installing the motor mounts for me, he advised against it and took me for a ride in a car they had (integra) with similar looking motor mounts to the ones I want, it rattles like a summa bish. I like the luxury car feel of the TL, is it worth it for me to do the aftermarket mounts? The idea of snappier response sounds great but the idea of amplified vibration scares me that i'll end up spending hundreds of dollars and end up liking my car less. help!

I doubt you're going to have much of a response here... Considering the motor mounts you're contemplating are the first aftermarket solution offered to the TL community.

My feedback from my VW days...

Auto or manual?

There are more vibes, but I think 04accord summed it up pretty well on .

Auto has worse vibes, as the engine is always engaged to the tranny. Manual vibes were only felt under load (clutch release and under hard pull).

I4 integra's shake more... engine is not as balanced and smooth as a V6.

My buddies vr6 (VW V6) had them... it shook a bit during launch, but not too bad.

It won't feel like stock, but it will likely not feel bad. The intitial shock of the "feel" of the vibes will subside in a week or so.

I'm getting a set, as the mounts are known failure point.

those with SOLID poly aftermarket mounts are going to feel everything
Its not going to make the car faster off the line or anything like that!
Stay comfortable and enjoy the TL- Touring Luxury

It depends on teh company you use, the car you have, and the bushing you choose. With a 60A bushing from Innovative motor mounts you likely will have very little if any vibration. However, the stock mounts are generally rubber and the Innovative Mounts are polyurethane. So there is a tradeoff: better launching and less engine movement (and in turn less wheel hop) for a touch more vibration. The vibrations will transfer a little more aggressively through the chassis since the previous OE rubber mount absorbed more of it but allowed the engine to move more.

Mine's an 04 AT, I have a minor vibration at idle as it is... The guy I spoke with said the same thing about 4 bangers vs a V6, that the 4cyl would vibrate worse but if I wanted to maintain a luxury car feel that I might be disappointed if I went with firmer mounts...

Not worth it?

Only you can answer that question...

What's more inportant to you?

Performance feel, no wheel hop (which isn't much of an issue for auto's), unbreakably reliable mounts, and more vibes... or cushy luxury feel.

Up to you... in an auto, I wouldn't do it... but lots of folks around here do more to a slushbox than I ever would. I figure the ratio of supercharged TL's -5AT to 6MT is 5 to 1... can't explain that one bit.
