Anybody with a supercharger regret it?

I am thinking about buying a supercharger for my base 07TL and was wondering if anyone who has one, regrets putting it on?

Also has the reliability of your car decreased? Has anyone had any issues?

Thanks

I was actually looking to see if people had any problems. Something like I installed mine the HP was nice, but I have had problems with x,y, and z.

Thanks for the useless response.

^ LoL. Or should I say TroLoLoL.

I haven't seen too many that have had issues with their SC that were big deal killers. I think a few have had ECU issues, that is, the ECU adapting to the SC. I know a few have reported mileage decreases but that's kind of a given when you're producing 30%+ more power. Other than that I don't recall any others.

i was always thinking about getting it, One thing that kept me from buying it, is that it had surging problems. Pretty much when you step on the gas sometime there is nothing then all of a sudden the power kicks in. I guess that would be an ecu problem . I dont know if they resolved that. Another thing that suck and i might be wrong is that on a base TL automatic with a supercharger no tune... you are pretty much on par with a type s 6mt. But so much money spent.

as long as you have all the supporting mods, you should not have any problems

The SC can also be run at different power levels depending on exhaust mods. A base AT with a SC and stock cats and exhaust might only bring it to type-s MT status. Fully bolted the SC AT would be a good bit faster than the type-s. A fully bolted base MT with the SC is ( my old setup ) a good bit faster, all with 3 Psi. The surging was an issue but with methanol injection and new engine management options, that is likely no longer a problem. As long as you don't beat on the car, reliability is not an issue. We have a member with over 100k on his SC setup.

to add on. With supporting mods you will be good. The AEM FIC was a big step forward compared to the ACM. I believe the FIC helped if not eliminated surging issues. DO NOT run a HBP. As hi speed stated. All of the gains are accomplished with 4-5 psi. The new JNR ecu should allow for more boost and controls etc. Buying it brand new from CT for 4.5k, not worth it, picking up a used one around 3 k is worth it. before pulling the trigger, I would install all the bolt ons, the go FI.( PCD-jpipe-exhaust)

the hbp can be run safely; for instance you can buy pistons that lower compression. they would cost around $900

i have 14k miles with my sc and no problems whatsoever, my car now has 145k miles and it was running perfect till i started messing around with the ecu and i installed the AEM FIC, i got it to work great for a day and then it started giving me problems with engine misfires. i will bypass the CAM signal option tomorrow and see how it works out since im getting a CAM intermittent signal code... before i started messing around and installing new injectors and the FIC the car run great with the SC and full bolt-ons.

The boost level has nothing to do with the drawbacks of running the HBP. It's the large amounts of heat generated by spinning that little S/C that hard. Even with a water/meth kit, you're only going to be cooling the intake charge when you're in the boost, or, only about 10% of the time.

With a free flowing exhaust, you're only going to push maybe 5 p.s.i. with the HBP. Many of us turbo guys are running 10+ p.s.i. on stock internals. The difference there is that we're all intercooled, and run intake temps slightly above ambient even while not in boost.

Don't forget that if you're changing pistons, you're going to need gasket kits to the tune of ~$300, main and rod bearings (I totally forget how much they were) and other misc items.

IMO, if I had to do it all over again, I would have completely skipped the S/C and went straight to the turbo. The money spent versus the results (and not to mention future potential) with the turbo by far outweigh the S/C. Then again, I wouldn't be experiencing some of the drawbacks of the large amounts of power generated from the turbo if I was still running the S/C.
