another exhaust mod

So, I've been getting the mod itch again, last time that happened I ended up doing my TL-S tails and installing the Fujita CAI, and deleted 1 muffler and did the Dynamax resonator aka Stage 3 or Stage 2 i can't remember.

this time around I got the Basslink, the UR pulley + gates belt, and chrome trim garded the middle line on the front bumper along with the brushed aluminum domeddecals

....and now i'm itching to mod the exhaust sound again because I miss the drone (previously owned a Z).

I'm not going for a ricer sound just looking for a bit more noise..so of course i went to our trusty friend, SEARCH.

came up with:
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...st+tips+welded
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...low+stock+tips
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...low+stock+tips
https://acurazine.com/forums/showthr...low+stock+tips

but the more i read the more confused i got. so this is the plan of action (yes i know aznbo is coming out with one for us, but i'd like to get this done now, and maybe consider grabbing aznbo's catback later on

so:

goal #1 retain the stock tips
goal #2 get a deeper sound

here's my question: since i've already done the Stage 2/3 (can't remember) mod, what do i have to actually get?
2 mufflers, some piping @ 2.5"?
and just get someone to weld on these mufflers, cut off the tips from the stock muffler and weld them onto the new mufflers?

nevermind i just sad down and mapped everything out....which i probably should've done the first time.

just ordered my parts at performancecenter.com instead of summit, this time around summit was more expensive...yea yea, could've gone cheaper probably by a few more bucks but i'd rather order from a reliable place than get fucked over and not know where my stuff is.

anyway so when i go to the welder i want to make sure i sound like i know what i'm saying.

so it's "I want the stock mufflers replaced with the magna flows, and i want the stock exhaust tips cut off and welded on (hence why the muffler is 2.25 instead of 2.5 inlet/outlet right?) and just 2.5" tubing from the mufflers to the Y pipe" which is connected to the 2.5" pipe that was my original Stage 3 muffler delete?

and this shouldnt run me more than $150-ish (sound about right?)

haha yea i think i've already seen your vid or someone else's on youtube. It's the main reason why i'm gonna do this mod,

the sound is just about right for me.

to me, this drone sounds great, i'm just happy it doesnt sound like a ricerocket is all

btw did you have a CAI when you did that vid?

jcl622 you helped me with suggestions on doing something similar to this...what was the total cost to get it into the car and did you notice any power increase? not that I want to do this mod for that reason, but if there is somewhat of an increase i would be happy

no the dynomax is not necessary for this mod.

basiaclly dmb4325, I did a stage 3 and still didn't like the sound, but i really can't justify spending $1k on an exhaust setup yet....basically no money, so i've worked around it for the time being (PLUS I dont really like the current catback options) by doing this.

the cost is about 350-400 for everything done, and i get to keep my stock tips which is really the reason i'm doing this at all, otherwise i'd just have saved up for another month or two and gotten something else, but as of yet doesn't look like any quad tips will be out yet, so this is all i got

yea...i know it'll probably be a bit louder than i'd like, but currently stage 3 just isnt enough, and the stage 4 sound is kinda...

but yea

dynomax -> 2.5" straight pipe -> 2.5"/2.25" Y-pipe -> 2.25"/2.25" mufferlers -> stock tips

in case anyone was confused and what not. I'll post sound clips when the y pipe is in and i can get it all welded

This was the setup I had. The drone was unbearable for me.

Outside was a little louder than I wanted, my kid loved it.

the drone is from the muffler and the fact that a resonator is removed.

i thought i had enough kid in me too....i came from a RSX type S with one of the loudest exhaust set up (top Fuel catback + header)

being an AUTO is most of the annoyance, if it was a 6spd, the drone will be more settled, eversince i got an exhaust on the TL, ive been driving it in SS mode more than usual goodluck

do you have any extra sub woofers in your car? I drive with the music turned up pretty loud....i wish i had dampeners for the ppl outside, cuz i really dont care about if ppl can hear the thump, i just love the feeling of bass attacking me.

anyway, with music on is it more bearable? and over time has the sound changed for you at all?

In my case, I believe it was the short dynomax resonator.

I replaced it with a large magnaflow resonator and it cut the drone by 90%. It still there but I plan on doing some dynamat this summer because it also cut the sound down to a level that I wanted.

even with music it was unbearable for me, this long gearing is killing us...that is if ur auto...

I thought i was quite the youngin still...but i was wrong, my passengers also complained alot so it was irritating, litterally we could not hear eachother when we speak LOL...just imagine u standing near a loud bass subwoofer which is on constantly...yup...only thing u hear is HUMMMMMMMM..

yes i beleive the magnaflow resonators will help a bit...or you can try the Magnaflow XL mufflers as a resonator, you won't get as much gains from it since it restricts the flow a bit being a CHAMBERED designed, but i can garantee that it will kill the drone significantly...idk how it will sound though, i never tried
