Aggressive sounding exhaust?

Hi all i am fairly new to this forum and this is one of my first postings. I have a 3.2 L J32A3 V6 2004 acura tl. I want my exhaust to sound more aggressive but i want to keep the stock exhaust. I heard that using test pipes/ straight pipes and deleting the cat, mid muffler and resonator would make the exhaust sound more aggressive. i do currently live in NY so i would want to car to past emissions so im trying to stay away from cat deletes. I'm looking for any other methods i can use or any other ways i can make my stock exhaust sound better with out spending too much money. I am open to getting a new exhaust system but only if its affordable, so any affordable exhaust systems suggestions would be great. Thanks all!

Try stage 2 or 3 exhaust mods. That's where the mid muffler is removed, and a dynomax or magnaflow resonator is installed in place of the stock resonator. You can search on YouTube and get a ton of videos. Just search Acura TL stage 1,2,3, or 4

^ This. MUST get the mufflers as just removing the Mid Muffler and Resonator will make it very raspy.

Also remember that how it sounds when first installed won't be how it sounds later down the road once its "broken" in.

You do realize they make more than one kind/size of muffler right?

Just go search the exhaust threads to get more ideas and specific part numbers. Lots and lots of info on this already in the forums.

I straight piped the rear mufflers, it's not very loud unless you get on it, then it screams. As long as you have a resonator it'll still sound good without sounding like a Civic. I still have the stock mid muffler and a smaller Dynomax resonator in place of the stock one. I can't justify getting a catback for this car at $1000 to maybe gain 10HP, I get complements on the sound and have about $100 total into my exhaust. Zero HP gained but it's lighter at least.

The aftermarket exhausts for our car are way better than the stock and they'll last forever. You're paying all that money because of quality. So yes it is justifiable ^^

I said I can't justify it, to me if I had a grand to blow on cars it would go to my other one, not my daily driver. Nothing wrong with getting a catback.

Jpipe/pcd/catback is about 2k. While the quality is great i agree the gains are not worth the cost. I feel the basic stage 1-4 mods with the mid mufflers and resonators are much more reasonable for the cost.

Mid Muffler and Resonator Removed replaced with 2.5 piping. Magnaflow rear mufflers part#11365.

Mufflers were 160 shipped. Install was 150 (60 for mid muffler and 60 for resonator removed and replaced with piping and 30 for muffler instal) All together $310. Not bad and it sounds great.

Note: LOTS of drone in the car. Me personally i love the sound but for a lot of people it would be annoying. If you want to remove the drone instead of straght piping the resonator use either a magnaflow or dynomax resonator.

agressive and stock don't work together. nothing is more agressive sounding than a full catback.

If you do the stage mods, avoid getting a j-pipe. You'll get rasp like crazy.

Stage 3, all dandy. Add a j-pipe, not dandy.

Aero exhaust systems are extremely agressive sounding. I have on on my 2006 Acura TL, they are affordable and sound real nice and also will give you a power gain.

I did Stage 3 with Dynomax 24235 and XLR8 Jpipe, with no rasp and it sounds great. I have an 07 Type S and the only other engine mod I have is K&N short ram intake.

For OP, you can remove the 3rd catalytic converter since it is after the O2 sensors and does not affect the emissions reading on the OBDII that the NY emissions test uses. They use the same system here in WA and I just passed with the mods above.

Car is running everything in my signature except for HFPC, the car has PCDs in this video. PCDs really bring out the beast in the TL. I say get a full setup and never look back.

Why don't you just get an ATLP exhaust? aggressive with a nice deep tone.

Indeed you can build yourself a straight pipe yourself and it'll be much cheaper... same gains. But the sound and quality of the materials may not be as good. You can spend time to research which materials and thicknesses will give you the best sound though.

I'd probably stick with 2.5-3" piping and go into a 2.25-2.5 split at the Y.

yeah I think "aggressive" is very very "subjective"

Removing any cats with deletion of mid muffler or resonator will create rasp/drone/both...

depending on your budget I would do this:

VERY LOW BUDGET (100-150 bucks): do the stage 3
LOW BUDGET (300-400 bucks): do with stage 4 with magnaflow rear mufflers
DECENT BUDGET (700ish bucks): do the jpipe, and maybe rear magnaflow mufflers
GOOD BUDGET (1500-2000): get the jpipe and full catback exhaust

either way do your research and see what sound you like...I feel all the exhaust systems from our vendors (RV6/ATLP/XLR8) sound great....so see what you like (many youtube videos out there)...
