AEM v2 mod for 07-08 w/ fogs

Figured I'd post about my experiences installing the AEM v2 CAI on my 07 base TL. I ordered the intake from XLR8. Shipping was fast from the warehouse and they provided excellent support when I called about the lack of fitment with the factory fog light. The intake I ordered can be found here: http://store.excelerateperformance.c...i-1963264.aspx

It is the exact same intake as this model, despite being specified to fit the 04-08 TL: http://store.excelerateperformance.c...c/i-47067.aspx

As most of you know, no matter how you install this intake on ay 07-08, it jams up tightly against the fog light. After a day of driving the moving filter busted the bulb casing on my fog light, and the filter was severely dented in...and yes, all of my engine mounts are brand new, the movement of the motor is minimal. Also, the mounting bracket was securely bolted down. I called XLR8 and they clarified that I would be able to cut the intake tube to provide more clearance for the factory fog lights. Because of how low down the mounting bracket on the intake is, you have to cut off the bracket and about 3 inches of tubing to allow the filter to fit and clear the fog light. I brought the tube to a local metal shop and had them do a clean cut on the intake with a band saw for $20. I bought some foil/foam ductwork tape from home depot to pad the intake where it rubs against the car's chassis, and to provide a secure fit, since I no longer have a mounting bracket for the bottom of the intake.

Here is what was cut off the intake, just below the weld:

It sits slightly higher up, which might be useful since I daily drive in New England weather and there's less chance for hydrolock.

From the top with the foam tape installed for padding and support:

Notice the amount of clearance with the fog light now, plenty of room for movement and airflow:

The sound of the intake didn't change at all and there was no noticeable bog on the motor after shortening the tube. My only concern is that I don't have a lower mount for the intake anymore, but it is extremely lightweight and firm enough to stay put against the chassis with the foam padding. If anyone has the 07-08 TL with this intake, I strongly suggest cutting it if you want to save your fog lights. It will still perform like a cold-air intake and you'll have a little added protection from major puddles/potholes.

I have been running the V2 pressed up on the foglight housing for 3 years without any problems.
