AEM users heads up

You might want to check the bolt in the pix below .. I have found mine backed off a couple times now. First off I thought it was user error but it seems like dissimilar metals doing it ..

Might also have been nice if it was a SS bolt .. this one rusts.

Try some Teflon tape (used for piping). I used it. If it backs out even with Teflon tape, then it's time for Locktite.

Added the tape today .. biggest problem is if you tighten it too tight you force out the "O" ring.

Does having the temp sensor on the intake really mess up the gas mileage?

No it does not mess up gas milage ... Furthermore it should be relocated so the sensor is doing what it should be doing with the COLD air intake {see COLD} it may only be 30 /40 degrees but it is still cooler air that it is reading

You have proof of this? I read otherwise.

On mine, I did not use the o-ring for that reason. With the tape handling the sealing, the o-ring is not needed. And, as you said, without the o-ring to worry about, you can tighten the bolt much better.

Mine went down with it relocated . Anyone can claim otherwise all they want, but my mileage went down with it in the tube and back up with it in the stock location. Excessive change? No. Change? Yes. As for the "added horsepower," you won't notice it...you can't notice 2-3 hp...and 2-3 hp doesn't make a difference in anything.

That is until you get into the dyno horsepower game and looking to squeeze out every HP you can get....lol.

Hey chill_dog, how much did your mileage go down when you put on the intake and relocated the sensor? I'm looking at picking up an AEM within a week or so, but wanted an idea of what I'm getting into first. When I added an intake to my old car, the gas mileage jumped up almost 3 mpg.

Gas Mileage??

Don't add any performance mods if you are worried about gas mileage... I dont see the point, they are all designed to get more air and gas into the engine to produce more power (or less drag, ie pullies) The mass-air sensor senses the addition air mass and increases the gas to keep the mixture the same so you don't go too lean and do damage.

If you want good gas mileage, keep the car stock and drive like grandma

With the intake itself, my mileage went up a couple; with the sensor relocated, it went down a couple.

Stock: 19-20
Intake: 20-21
Sensor relocated: 17-18

Now, a couple of miles per gallon isn't a lot, but depending on how often you fill up, it does add up. Plus, there's the downstream effects. The car runs a little rich to start with; if you force it to think there's more cold air, it dumps more gas into the mix...making it run even richer.

i had 20 mpg before i installed mine this week and now i have 19 without the sensor relocated.
i expected it to go up but it's only been a few days.
i want to relocate the sensor but i couldn't figure it out from the instructions it came with.
I don't trust that bolt & O ring , it seems a bit weak
