AEM Intake

Sorry for if this is a repost, I did a quick search and found nothing.

I'm looking to buy a AEM intake, but was wondering if there's a difference between the AEM for the Type-S and the one for the 3.2.

Thanks in advance

^ Water can get into any Cold Air Intake. But chances are not likely. Unless you think ur TL is a boat and try to cross the pacific.

Would the v2 fit with a TB spacer and gaskets?

wow I forgot about this thread. Of course I would prefer a v2 but I picked up the original for a good price from someone parting out on here.

When I get the right funds, I'll switch over.

I'm sure this has been asked a million times, sorry for adding one more. But will the v2 definitely fit my '06 auto trans base TL without any additional mods/problems? The more I read about this the more I really want to buy it, but I just want to be sure before I do.

I have an 06 (WDP pics above) I took the front bumper off for a VERY EASY install. NO PROBLEMS, no hammers needed, fit fine, slipped right in, piece of cake.

I took the bumper off also to learn how, that way when I change my headlights(doing that this morning) I will know how. ALSO A PIECE OF CAKE.

Thanks for clarifying guys. Now I'm definitely convinced. Makes the engine sound mean as hell on an otherwise stock setup (which i'll have) without being too loud. Now to work out the finances....

To quote AEM's site

V1 (its not really called a V1, its just the "Cold Air Intake":

Cold Air Intakes FAQs...

AEM pioneered the Cold Air induction system for sport compact cars in 1994.

A Cold Air intake system relocates the filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver the coolest air inlet temperatures possible. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. Tuning the inlet pipe in length and diameter to match the engine's resonance helps move more air to the cylinders (think of your engine as a big air pump), and this tuning allows us to deliver the maximum power gains throughout the entire RPM range. We also monitor fuel trim correction factors and all OBDII sensors during R&D to eliminate leaning the engine out and/or throwing a check engine light.

Our Cold Air systems are dyno-proven and tested against the competition with the goal of creating more useable power than any other system of their kind. Every AEM Cold Air induction system features the highest standards of construction and we are so confident in their fit and performance that we guarantee them for the life of your vehicle. All AEM Cold Air systems include a lifetime DRYFLOW Synthetic air filter and come with a limited lifetime warranty.

Engineered to produce maximum horsepower and torque
Manufactured and assembled in the USA
Inlet constructed of lightweight 6063 aluminum and mandrel bent for maximum flow
Reinforced TIG-welded brackets and fittings deliver added durability
Utilizes a complete hardware kit with soft mounts for a guaranteed perfect fit
AEM’s lifetime DRYFLOW Synthetic air filter is up to 99.52% efficient in FINE DUST testing, filters dirt as small as one micron, and never needs filter oil!

V2:

V2 Intakes FAQs...

AEM’s V2 intake systems use a patented dual chamber design that maximizes horsepower and torque - producing even more power that our own Cold Air systems.

On a dyno graph, the area under the power band (or power curve) represents the amount of effort that an engine is producing. The larger the overall area under the curve, the more power your engine is making. The AEM V2 utilizes a dual chamber (using two different diameters and lengths of piping) that creates multiple frequency sound waves to produce the largest area under the curve of any intake system on the market. These sound waves help charge the cylinders with more air throughout the entire rpm range and are what enables the V2 to outperform even our own Cold Air systems.

We have found that inlet length plays a vital role in the power production of V2 systems and not all V2 induction systems relocate the filter outside of the engine compartment. In these cases, we performed extensive temperature testing to locate the filter in the coolest area of the engine compartment to achieve the lowest inlet temperatures possible. Please refer to our temperature testing procedures for more information.

Outperforms every intake system on the market, even our own Cold Air intakes

My question, and the only thing that's holding me back from changing out my AEM for an AEM V2, is does the V2 have the squeal the "V1" has under light throttle from ~2k to ~2.8k rpm? I am debating between putting the stock intake back in or getting a V2 just to get rid of the squeal.

Yeah, talking about the "whistle". I don't call it that because mine literally sounds like a squealing belt, just not as loud. If the V2 doesn't have this issue, I will probably be getting one.

The V2 IS a CAI. Just a different design.

And that whistle sound is not an ISSUE persay. It is a sound you get with a lot of cars when you install high flowing intakes. The V2 design probably (based on the above comments) muffles this sound a little. In the end, all the TLs make this sound with all intakes, even sock. You just don't hear it with all intakes!

Sorry for being such a noob when it comes to performance mods, but I have to ask a basic question. I have a stock '07 TL-S; what will adding the AEM V2 do for my ride? Also, how easy is the install on this? Can a noob pull it off?

It will increase hp through air induction. If you have never installed one before it will take about 2 hours; it comes with instructions. There are DIY threads on the forum.

It will also make your engine more audible under load (giving gas). It sounds pretty cool, and the V2 gives a pretty refined sound. I prefer it to an Injen intake with sounds, to me, more raw. It come's with decent instructions for install; but the worst part is removing all the stock parts.
