AEM CAI whistle annoying me....

I've had my AEM CAI on my car for about 1 1/2 years now, and the damn thing whistles too loud. At first I thought it was kinda cool, but now it's just annoying. It's similar the the sound of a squeaky belt. Do they sell filters that don't whistle? It's about that time I either clean it or replace it anyways.

mine is an injen and it hisses/whistles. Its only at really light throttle. Doesn't annoy me though.I figure its just the filter on mine...i think ima try to get on of those F5/Fujita fliters. They look like a nice design

My K&N Typhoon intake whistles like all hell at a lower throttle. It's annoying, but still better than that stock POS.

Oh, and what's this I'm reading about dry filters vs. oiled filters. Are the dry ones better? Maybe I should buy a dry filter. Oh, and mine whistled between 2k - 3k RPMs... I don't hear it when the windows are up, but I know other people can hear me because they start staring.

I have the dryflow Aem filter on my Injen intake and it's pretty quiet at lower RPM range and it has a deep and mellow scream at higher RPMs. The filter doesn't have to be oiled, only cleaned with that special Aem cleaner they sell for around $10. Of course the intake still whistles quietly between 2 and 3k rpm but that's just a characteristic of all the intakes I believe. I think the filter is 3.5" in diameter?

[highjack]i figure the piping on the injens are about 2.5- 2.75 but the part for the filter is rolled/funneled out. So I figure a filter with a 3" inlet. I would jack the car up and measure or search the net before ordering though. But i like the design of the fujita filter. I would have gotten their intake but got a great deal on the injen [/endthreadhighjack]
I wonder what's really making it whistle though...hmm....

i have the same thing and i digg it. i like the new AEM filter attached to my injen. I've had it for awhile and its a good combo, i would deff rec switching the filter to the aem dry flow

The credit for my intake set up goes to gman here on the forum, it was his set up and I bought it from him when he's got his supercharger and had no need for the intake no more. Thanks again gman I've got the best of both worlds the low noise and torque of Injen and the flow, filtration and convenience of Aem filter. Injen intake and Aem filter make a great combo.

Same here. I only had my AEM CAI for about 2 weeks and I noticed that during low RPM. Its annoying sometimes. But I think most intakes has that particular characteristic.

Well its all a matter of personal preference and tolerance of that whisling noise vs your desire for slightly more power, and a deeper growl.

aem = slightly wider intake = slightly more noise, slightly more power.

By the way, all CAI's have the whistle. The only intake that doesn't is the stock one. Injen might have a little less, but it is still there (compared to the AEM).

So, do you guys think I should give the dryflow AEM filter a try? How much does it cost? For some reason, I think mine is whistling pretty loud. I haven't heard any other TL's with a whistle like mine.

I just installed my aem cold air intake yesterday on my 06 TL. Does any of yours make a hiss sound after shifting?

Also, I had a RSX before with a V2 AEM short intake. It seems as if the short intake is louder than the cold air. Plus you can hear the sound of the V2 intake as soon as you step on the accelerator. With the cold air, I can hear it only when the rpm hits above 4K rpm. Is this something you guys went through with your TL? I'm not a mechanic (only thing I ever did to my car was fill gas) but I did intall the CAI myself. I just worried that I insalled this thing legit. Thanks.

Mine makes a whistle between 2K-3.5K RPM then a "chooo" sound when it shifts if I'm doing a semi-hard acceleration. The "chooo" sound I don't mind too much, it's the whistling that gets on my nerves. Oh, and does anyone elses car sneeze after you turn off the ignition?

I just installed my AEM CAI & did notice the "sneeze" or hiss sound when I turn off the ignition. I have the dryflow filter that came with it & still no whistle.

All the new aem's come with the dryflow. There is definitely a whistle. Roll down the window and listen for it.

noise of aem cai ?

to the user who hates the noise... is it because the noise changed? Because from what I hear everyone LOVED the noise, or is this just on preference? Got a sound clip anywhere??

i believe that's just the properties of an intake, the "sneeze" and the "whistling". it did both for my first car (Weapon R on a Honda Accord) and my friend's AEM V2 in his '05 RSX.

I feel that the sneeze and whistle are to be expected from such a drastic improvement to the airflow...I mean, come on, did you see how much piping and how big the mufflers were on the factory intake?

The whistling is from the throttle body plate. It will happen at all rpms if you are at the right throttle position. Basically the plate is open just enough that the air going around the plate causes the noise because it's traveling very quickly through a small "crack." It's there with all intakes, just that the stock one does a good job muffling the sound (all those resonators you have to pull out of the fender!).

The sneeze is a vacuum release after the car shuts off. Mine does both of these (have the AEM). The whistle gets annoying, but just hit the gas a little harder
