AEM CAI and Smog Test
AEM CAI and Smog Test
Hey guys I need your help,
I am trying to sell my 2006 TL and I just found out that I need to get the car smog tested for the title transfer.
I have a AEM Cold Air Intake installed and I am not sure it will pass the SMOG TEST. I live in California. I also don't have the old intake system anymore.
I read on dmw.org that if the car is four model or less year older you don't need to get the smog test. Have you heard this before? Will the 2006 model year qualify for this? I believe the model year right now is 2009 or 2010.
Thanks for your help.

It all depends on the institution that is funding the car. Some of them require a smog test before title is transfered to them as the leinholder. Reason being is because they wouldn't want to finance a car that can't pass smog which means the re sell value is crap. Where at in california do you live? I still have my stock air box and everything I just recently taken off of my car.
06 DO NOT NEED SMOG UPON TRANSFER. now that we got that out of the way. cars that are 3 years or less do not need emissions test when transferred, at least the DMV don't ask for it. Sometimes the finance company is the one that asks for it. Also if the intake has the A.R.B/ C.A.R.B # on it there should not be no problem. If the car is out of state don't matter how new or how many miles on it WILL need to be tested. How do I know this... I do this for a living.

The buyer is coming tomorrow so I am not sure what he wants. But I live around Thousand Oaks, CA. How much are you willing to sell the stock air box or are you willing to borrow it

Thanks A lot for this SAL's Type S. I am selling the car to a private buyer. This is my first time selling a car so I am not very familiar with the process. I just checked out the Intake in my car and I was not able to find the CARD or ARB number. I am selling the car instate. Hopefully all will be well. I enjoyed driving this car. Had NO PROBLEMS at all.
