An AEM CAI experience..
An AEM CAI experience..
Well, i unhooked all of the stuff under the hood and drained the radiator. Then the wheel wouldnt come off, I tried to remove it for 6 hours (overtightened lugnuts.) Then I tripled my time by doing it with the wheel on from under the car. Ten hours. I got it done though. The car still acts "moody." (problem unsolved) BUT h*ly M*otherf*ucking sh*t mother of god- WOW. That thing sounds beautiful. For the price - that type of performance gain is incredible. THIS IS A MUST FOR ALL SPEED LOVERS with this car. Look- If you dont have an aem cai, youwill regret all the lost past time once you get one later (ride in a tl with it installed; and then decide to get one) Once again - wow.

Wow, 10 hours!!! Instead of removing your wheel, you should have just taken off your front bumper and made it ten times easier. And why did you drain the radiator? There is no need for that.

TETRA:: You need to give the car a few days or hundred miles to adjust to the new intake. That's why it seem's slugish or abnormal now.
So you only drain about a gallon of radiator fluid into a clean container to reuse later, right?
or
Is there a better way to keep the fluid?
MAKE SURE YOUR VSA IS TURNED OFF !!!!!
I have had my AEM CAI installed now for 1,000 miles (since August 18). Like everyone said, my car started to really perform top-notch after having the CAI installed for 200 miles.
My car gained so much responsiveness that the car now was much more capable of spinning the tires during take-off. I found this the hard way. I was stuck in traffic, and the next lane was moving faster. So, I punch it (show off, sorry). The car responses with a mild thrust and a bogging engine. I quickly realized that the VSA had engaged to kill the engine timing to prevent wheel spin.
So, I now make sure that I have my VSA turned off whenever I am not on the freeway.
Shortly after learning to always turn off the vsa in traffic, I indeed was squelling the tires on several occasions until I learned to handle this new power.
Before the CAI, I never had to worry about unintentionally spinning the tires.

I bypassed the TB so that it recieves no coolant (or should that be heat-ant not cool-ant).
Here is my post regarding this bypass.

The green line is highlighting the hose routing where it loops back.

The AEM instructions show to make connections to allow hot water to flow thru the throttle body. So, this is a modification to the AEM modification.
Purpose of the bypass to keep the intake track (and intake charge) slightly cooler. I mean, afterall, it *is* called a *cold* air intake -- so, let's try to keep thing cool.
More details can be found in the link that I posted above regarding the bypass.

TetraLudious05,
If you are impressed this much with the CAI, wait until you feel the gains from the UR Pullley.
I can say that the pulley makes a *bigger* improvement than the CAI. Not saying that the CAI is bad... the CAI is GREAT with a noticable power increase. But, the pulley has even more of a noticable improvement.
When I felt the CAI, I said to myself "Cool !!!! Great !!!!"
When I felt the pulley, I said to myself "Holy Shet !!!!!!"
And for the past 7 days since I had the UR Pulley installed (had it done on 09-08-2006), I still find myself saying "Holy Shet !!!" out loud each day.

I agree. I think that the pulley is one of the best (if not THE best) mods for the money.

^ you want the undersized pulley if you don't have a supercharger. It reduces 12 lbs I think and spins faster. If you get the stock size you're basically getting the same thing but just lighter.
I just modded my AEM intake on the S/C today and my blower is about 50x louder

I got my pulley from www.ptuning.com . I got the underdrive pulley, part number PT020611402 for $179.95 (shipping is included in the price). This is the part number for the reduced diameter pulley. Be aware that UR has a lightwieght pulley that is oem diameter, but www.ptuning.com does not apprear to carry it.
Well, here is unorthodoxracing's answer. This is the manf. of the UR pulley

7) "Will the pulleys void my factory warrantee?"
Actually the answer is fairly complex but has a simple answer. Automobile manufacturers state if a specific component is not designed by them for use on your vehicle from the factory, then the component voids your warrantee. This area has been a hotbed of controversy for years. SEMA has been working feverishly to protect owner’s rights on this issue because many aftermarket products are viable replacements, if not better in design and function than the factory component.
Our pulleys are one of many products, from air intakes to computer chips to exhaust systems that fall into this category. The simple truth is that most dealers are looking for any excuse to avoid working on vehicles modified with aftermarket performance parts.
The solution is the MAGNUSON-MOSS WARRANTY IMPROVEMENT ACT, which requires the dealer or Manufacturer to prove the aftermarket part you are using actually caused a failure or problem with the vehicle. So if your dealer gives you a hard time let him know you are aware of your rights and they should back down quickly.
The key is owners must be aware these situations can arise and this is clearly stated in the back of the owner’s manual that non-OEM products void the manufacturer warrantee. This, not surprisingly, includes performance parts designed by car manufacturers (i.e. Ford Motorsports, TRD, Mazda Competition and GM Performance to name a few).
