Aem cai

Sorry if I'm repeating a thread.

I just replaced my engine in my TL. I was wondering the possibilities of any problems installing/running a AEM CAI. I live in TX where usually in the Summer it rains semi-alot. My uncle is a mechanic and just told me a CAI will have no problems, especially that with a water that high that will hydrolock, it would mess up the car anyways even without the CAI. true? Should I be worried? or should I get away from the CAI and just buy my types tails

you have a chance of hydrolocking with the factory intake, but your chances increase with the CAI. Why was your engine replaced?

Bent Rod in engine, had a thread before about that and cost me about 1300 which wasn't bad but still. How much higher? Is it common?

Thumbs down

just watch out for puddles and if u live in a dusty area you may want to get a filter with oil not the dryflow filter

You have to submerge the filter in water to suck up water. Just don't drive through flooded areas.

Ok I'll just avoid floods as much as possible, the filter that comes with my AEM, if I do get it, says its the oil filter so I should be fine I guess. Hopefully this works out If it does flood and I fuck up my engine, my insurance will probably cover it as I have full insurance

Um oiled filters or not if you drive thru a puddle and submerge that thing you are gonna do some sucking of water. If you are so worried about it why dont you just do a short ram.

AEM comes with a dry flow. Oiled filters aren't going to prevent hydrolock.

If you need the intake check out our web store.

I got the V2. I like the intake so far, it freed up alot of air and car pulls noticeably harder.

you should never have any problems with normal weather or washing your car, the only time you will have a problem is if you drive through standing water that is near the bottom of your car. small puddles or falling rain should never cause a problem, and larger puddles at slow speeds should not be much of a problem either, its the deep puddles at higher speeds that do the most damage. just ask me, it happened a few months ago and now i have a "new" engine

You have a higher chance of the mounting bracket braking than Hydrolocking....belive me.... its happen to me twice already.... AEM is sending me a new prototype which is not in production yet for our cars.... I guess i will be the test dummy for this new redesing AEM.

Definitely keep us updated on this. I'm interested to see what they've done.

I got the AEM even though I've read about some people having theirs break. I added some extra rubber fender washers to the vibra mount hoping to provide a little extra give. I also didn't tighten the nuts on the mount too much so it could flex better and added some loctite to the inner nut so it wouldn't work loose from not being completely seated. Waiting to see how it holds up

I will.

The new Cai shoult be here this week.

This is the reply I got from Customer Service from AEM.

Email#1
"Hi Jose,

I am sorry to hear that it has broken again. Unfortunately we have had several that have broken as you have seen and they are in the process of redesigning this pipe. There is a design meeting scheduled for this afternoon and I have asked that this be addressed first. They asked if they could use your car, but I told them you were in New York and that obviously wouldn’t work, so they have to find one to test on. I wont know until tomorrow what time frame they are looking at for completion, but in the meantime, do you want me to send you another pipe? "

Email #2
"Hi Jose,
Well, you are in luck. They have made 3 first articles of the new revised pipe and I have managed to snag one for you. It is a polished one, but until the new pipe is put into production, which will be a couple of months, I can send you this one. What address do you want it sent to, the same as last time?"

#3
Hi Jose,

"They moved the bracket and according to the engineer, the installation is the same. I will send you the mounting hardware and if you should have ANY questions at all regarding installation, please call! We do not need the old pipe back as we know there is a problem, you can just destroy it. "

Good stuff. Looking forward to seeing the revised pipe and where they moved the bracket. I would guess that it's down near the filter to reduce some of the stress on the bracket. Hopefully mine doesn't break, but it would be good to know that there's a fix if it does.

Doubt it since the AEM V2 is for Accord and not for TL. Unless Accords are having the same problem. I don't think is a new bracket per say, since the installation is the same, but more of relocation of the welding area on the pipe itself.

AEM V2 on UPS truck now, due here soon !!! I want to install it ASAP, but very nervous about taking the front bumper off. I also want to install my TL-S tails and rear side markers since I have my carpet and back seats out now. In an hour I am going out to install new center and door speakers. Polk 5.25" db component front and a Kicker 2 way center speaker. I bought an extra set of Polk 1" tweeters for the dash, but I think I will return them. I will surface mount the 1" tweeter that came with the component front door speakers. I already put 6.5" Polk db 2 ways in the rear deck. The amp needs to be replaced BIG TIME.

Nope.

Trust me, I was paranoid at first, but unless you submerge it, you'll be fine. The end of the intake is in front of your front tire, and the only way to really get at it is to stick your hand under the front bumper through the little hole; you'll feel the filter. Thus, water will have a pretty tricky time getting in there to cause it to hydrolock.

If you're still worried, just drive slow and avoid puddles in the rain. Problem solved.

I have been told by many to take the front bumper off for easy install. The front bumper takes 10 minutes to take off so I hear.

^^ It is easy getting that bumper off once you get over the initial fear or possibly damaging it. It's more resiliant than you think

doesnt bolt "right" in.. i believe you gotta "hammer" out a corner or something to make it fit better

My questions.. is the V2 THAT much better???

Oh , and MichealBenz... you dont need to take off the bumper, but it does make removing the OEM intake a lot easier IMO... i've installed like 3 or 4 of these intakes.

it will take the same amount of time either way, but i think removing the bumper does make it a little easier....

I've had the same question since people first found out this would "fit" thanks to Al (stillhere). Seems like a lot of hype but people are willing to spend more (in most cases) and make it "fit" to have it so I figure there has to be some benefit to the V2 vs. the original, just don't know what it is and I've read most of the posts and reviews on it.

Help

I AM going to install my NEW V2 very soon. I will take the front bumper off because I want to learn how. I am claering my headlights once I get answers to the V-LEDS dual color turn signal install and what resister to get AND HOW to wire this???

BUT for now I have a QUESTION about the install.

DO I have to drain 1 gallon of anti-freeze? I read the instructions and it seems much more COMPLICATED then I thought it would be.

Any pointers would help me. PLUS I searched for the video for the install and COULD NOT find it. I am very mechanical, but always PARANOID I will FCK something up.

PLEASE HELP. I am installing this ASAP. Once I take care of some VERY important PERSONAL BUSINESS today.

Thankyou GUYS/GALS ahead of time. I will be back in an hour or so.

Jeff.

Well I got the V2 in pretty easy, but I broke the bolt that the pipe mounts to the car.

I went to Menards and walked around for 30 minutes trying to find something to make another, I finally found out it was 6mm threads, so I bought a 6mm bolt and 10 rubber washers, it works for now.

I can't believe how much I took off.

Can't wait to drive tomorrow, I stopped for the night.

Yeah, I was pretty surprised by just how much stuff is replaced by that pipe. It'll growl though on the mid RPMs when you drive her.
