6mt perfomance upgrades

I need to rebuild my transmission so im looking for stronger parts and what i can do for gearing. I plan on charging my 3.2 motor with the gerzy bear rotrex 2.0 charger so any tips on where to find the parts and what is best for this would be greatly appreciated.

It is highly unlikely the Rotrex is going to be overpowering your transmission. Why do you think you need to rebuild the gearbox; that is pretty rare with these units.

I wouldn't worry about the trans right now, as currently your '04-'06 doesn't have a means to be tuned if you were to supercharge it anyway.

Why not, I've always been under the impression the 2006 6MT models were very tunable. Yes, no?

Forgot he was manual, the autos have nothing. Will need a TL-S ecu and Hondata. As for beefing up your 6mt, look into RV6 straight cut 3rd and 4th. But what do I know, I'm just a silly auto owner.

So the reason I am looking into rebuilding is because it doesnt want to go into gear very well when I am slamming gears and occasionally when i am just cruising. But I was also woundering if there where any gear replacements that would help me down the strip and i figured lets just build the tranny to make it last almost forever if possible. In the long future as my kids grow up i do plan on having a newer type s and this car will be a track car for my kids when they are old enough so by the time they will be driving this car i would like to have 600+ hp.

Also either way im still curious if there is anything out ther I have had trouble finding anything. I would atleast like to replace my syncro rings and such do to the resistance I do get occasionally to shift into 3rd and 2nd. And while im in there see if i can find different gears for better track performance.

Before you do anything else, read this...

The transmissions in these cars have a well known and documented issue with third gear; fortunately there is a very easy fix, simply drain the MTF out of the transmission and replace it with 2.3 quarts of ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified (the "Friction Modified" bit is very important, they also sell the same stuff without that designation). My car, and many others as well on this forum have experienced the same thing as you, and as soon as the Synchromesh is put into the transmission, bingo, problem solved.

Thank you horseshoez I will give it a shot. I know when I first got the car it was worse and I did try penzoil syncromesh which did help alittle. But for the future what do you think about changing the gearing for racing. Is there like better gearing so i can get better track times?

I have heard anecdotal reports of aftermarket gears, but I have no first hand knowledge of such. Do yourself a favor, got to Amazon or Summit Racing and get some ACDelco MTF and give it a try. I think I've only heard of one transmission which was too far gone to be "saved" (or at least prolonged) by this MTF.

I don't recall ever seeing any gear changes for 1-6, however there is a 4.1 final drive option:

The part number for the fuid is 89900399 sold under AC Delco, its GM scyncromesh friction modified. I am running my stock gear box above 600 WHP , but am gentle on the transmission in terms of shifting. There is no real reason to slam gears with this kind of power, the frame will begin to bend if you are able to get traction on slicks and the engine is easily capable of spinning the tires up until 100+ MPH on toque alone. I have slight dimples on the front fenders from hard pulls on drag radials. As far as beefing up the trans there is not much you can do, I know some member had straight cut gears. Not sure if it's worth it, the gears were made for use in the Honda Odessy turbo that Honda was using for a hill climb race car. You shouldn't be able to get that kind of load on the gears in a TL unless you are slamming gears and with weight transfer in a FWD car it just doesn't make much sense.

Did you use ACDelco Synchromesh or ACDelco Synchromesh Friction Modified? There is a HUGE difference between the two.

Way-WAY cheaper than a rebuilt or replacement transmission (plus installation).

Keep us posted.

Clutch kits 6spd type s 08

In the market for a clutch kit and want to do this right ,as of course starting with the transmission is probably the best place to start off with My project. Need a kit that will retain stock feel with would be ideal ,and handling of 500-600 hp
any thoughts greatly appreciate

Sorry misread that part. XLR8 has 3 different versions: daily, street, and drag. Drag is what you are looking for.

Again I need to here this from someone that has installed these kits on the type s as I've asked heel toe and they said the drag version has a bit of chatter
Definitely not a stock feel

Thanks for the mentions guys!

If you are looking for a setup that will take 500hp we do have our XLR8 Drag Clutch Kit available. You can find it and some additional info on our website here. If you have any questions on the kit or would like a shipping quote please feel free to send me a PM or shoot us an email. With the increased capacity does come a more aggressive pedal feel, but this is something that should be consistent with most other kits on the market!

We will also be offering 10% off our XLR8 products for Black Friday starting from 11/20/18 and running until 11/26/18 so don't forget to check out our website!

Happy modding!

Sorry, this is going to be a case of you cannot have your cake and eat it too. You are going to have to choose between stock feel and clutch system being able to handle your lofty goal of 500+ hp.

I have a segmented ceramic disc in my integra and I would not recommend it for a daily car, I have a XLR8 DD clutch in my TL for close to 3 years with no issues as a daily.

How much torque do you think you will make?

Not bad if you have the tools, but it's not as easy as an Integra because of the sub-frame.

I did have help for the bigger items and guiding things in and out but you can do it on your own.

Here's my install thread and review:
