Thumbs up 300+ horsepower

I have and 06 TL that I bought a couple of months ago. I love it but really need it to have more speed and power. The car looks to good for it to not have 300+ horses but I am not sure how to get this reliably. I am looking for some direction on reliable mods for break the 300 horsepower mark. The goal is 350 but I am not looking to spend time in the mechanics shop all the time after the fact. The car is my daily dirver as I like driving the car.

Thanks

Just Wondering, have you ever tracked your car, if so, what did you get for a time?

More power is always a desirable thing for any gearhead. But do keep in mind that the TL is a FWD platform and as everyone knows, front drive cars have very poor traction. So unless you're planning on setting the car up for drag racing, street tires just ain't gonna get it.

You need a Comptech Supercharger. I'm not sure if there are any left, as Comptech is in the process of closing its doors. I have had my supercharger for over a year now. It is very reliable. With the addition of the procats, I am at 316 WHP and 264 FT/LBS. It makes the car so much fun to drive.

whp- wheel horsepower (what your car puts to the street, not at the crank)
ft/lbs- foot-pounds of torque (ft/lbs. are how it's measured)
fwd- front wheel drive

WHP- The horsepower measured at the wheels. This is what dynos are used for.

That's respectable. Interesting that you are making a little more whp and more torque than MichaelBenz, who has similar mods. We really need to close the distance between HP & torque in these Honda/Acuras.

Hello Dan:

What is "procats"? Is it installed along with the Comptech SC?

What is its purpose?

Thanks,

Tim

Tim,

the pro cats replaces all 3 cats to high flow cats. Its best to put it in before the supercharger. If you decide to ever install the pro cats you must remove the supercharger to install the front cat.
You will gain 15-20hp n/a or with a super.
Cost is about $1175 shipped from a vendor.
Check the group buy section.

If you're just looking for 300 crank hp (you have 258 from the factory) get an AEM Cold Air Intake, E Shift Pro Cats, Exhaust (I'll be making one shortly), Unorthodox Racing Crank Pulley, Thermoblock Spacers. You will be over 300 crank hp with that.

Man SWEEET

You guys are awesome. I know about the FWD dilemas. Traction is an issue and no I am not trying set it up for trac racing. Pretty much I am a little pissed off cause the car struggles to pull past 180-190 km. And more importantly there was this new infiniti (Q something) that saw me driving and started to come after me and it caught up and went by. I'm sure it was an 8cyl car but . I cannot have an Infiniti pull ahead. A lexus ok Maybe but forget it an Infiniti!!!

Yes...that automatic trans is killing my figures though! If you figure it...I am running good HP at the crank...but once it travels though that AT....it gets hurt a bit!

Actually, E-Shift's pipes replace the two OEM cats with high flow stainless units. These are the ones directly below the exhaust ports on the heads. The third cat is downstream a bit, right where the cat-back starts.
I'm not sure about the 3G TLs but on the 7G V6 Accords this 3rd cat is easily replaced with a high flow cat or race pipe as there is no 02 sensor in this location.

Considering FWD, day to day drivability and price, the best way to get 350 HP would be this: cold air intake with low restriction air filter, high flow cat (only one), low restriction muffler (one is enough in order to save some weight), camshafts, valve springs and chip that would allow higher RPM.

Now, there is a problem. It seems to me that there are not aftermarket camshafts for 3.2 l TL engine. It should have lower lift cams same as OEM and high lift cams that would allow engine to breed up to at least 8000 RPM (longer lift). Valve springs should be a bit harder in order to insure that rockers follow cams at high RPM. Underdrive pulley would be a good prevention.

Engine like this would be very similar to original for day to day driving (up to 4500 RPM). That goes for FWD traction problems too. Pushing it to higher RPM would release more power for longer time. More than enough to overtake most of them.

Of course there is reliability issue. If you push it all the times it would not last as long as factory engine, but that goes for all power improvements.

Honda already made similar engine. 2 l 240 HP Spider makes 120 HP/l. 3.2 l TL engine with 350 HP would have “only” 110 HP/l. Piece of cake.

I think a lot of it comes down to if you actually wanna go fast...or just look like you are going fast. If strictly cosmetics are the goal...then you are right. Otherwise....its kinda one of those....you gotta pay to play deals. And even when you pay....you cant expect the moon and stars with this Acura....it does ok doent get me wrong...but the cost to go fast in this car is steep.

word.
How much do the procats run for? Is that the same thing as a catback? What exactly do they do? I've got the AEM CAI installed, and that was quite possibly the best buy I will ever make for my ride. I plan on getting the thermoblok spacers and the underdrive pulley installed next. Or should I buy a rear sway bar next? Hmm.

Peace

"to go fast in this car is steep."

^^ very well said man.. it's not cheap to fix up the TL..

Everytime when my cuzzins mods his RSX.. i ask him how much it was.. he said about couple hundred... for the same part, but for the TL.. it's much more expensive.. like the exhaust.. comptech has one for us but about 1g+,, while his rsx can get one for 600. On top of that the TL has MUCH less options when compared to other sports cars like the RSX..

and "How much do the procats run for?"

They run for about.. 1g+ but i think they give u about a 20hp and a good amount of torque.. they are high flow cats and you can purchase them from excelerate.. and as for what mod you should get next... it's either u want to make your TL a handling car or a GO car.. if u want speed, go for the UR pulley and thermoblock spacers.. if u want your car to straght handling, i'd go with sum coilovers and the swaybar.

Thanks for the advice. How much of a difference does the sway bar make? and the coilovers?
