3.80 final drive

They are from the 2010 tl shawd. I came across some info yesterday about this. There actually wasn't any redrilling. In order to buy that gear from acura, you have to buy the entire differential. Tb was buying them, unbolting them from the unit, and selling them to us. I also found out that they are not in production anymore. When looking at the pic of the gear that I took, you can see where the bolts left markings on the gear. Crazy stuff

Yeah, maybe you're right. Especially since the bolts go through the odd holes. That also explains Bryan getting his in the liberty gears box. I just got a plain box
#205
They sure look redrilled to me.
I just bought another auto trans today so before I put my 6 speed in I could take out the ring and pinon out of my fried auto trans with hopes I could have it redrilled for the 6 speed trans.
Share the info you came across.

There's no doubt that the "3.80" FD gear set is actually the SH-AWD gear set, which is 3.842 to be exact. But I'm thinking that Liberty's Gears did the modification to the ring gear. Honda probably added bolts to the ring gear because the J37 has more torque and is used in an AWD car with more traction.

Hold the ring gear with just your index finger and hit it with something metal... it has a nice ring to it.
Stock 3.286 FD gear set:
Countershaft on the right is for an 8th gen Accord (3.55). It's the same except for the gear portion. Although there is no doubt in my mind, I still have to get the differential/ring gear to confirm compatibility.

Well shucks. I hate when companies take a good hardware feature out and think that software "torque vectoring" makes up for it. Software is cheaper in the long run though. Oh well, another reason besides how ugly the 4G is that will keep me from getting one, lol.

Ok, I'm so confused. What's no longer in production? Is TB Motorworx no longer selling re-drilled 2010 TL-SHAWD rings/pinions, or are they NLA from Acura?
And is the 3.55 really worth it? Seems the gains would be pretty minimal over our factory 3.28

3.285 ~ turbo/sc cars
3.55 ~ sc/nitrous
3.842 ~ nitrous/all motor
i would probably go for the 3.55 and do nitrous :-) They 8th gen accords go mid 13s with minimal mods and full weight compared to the 7th gen accords. Though there is about 20-40hp difference(dont remember). Gearing is a big factor.

I think the 3.55 is the best overall compromise. 3.80 is just too much for my taste and 115 in 4th just doesn't cut it. I'd love to see 120mph traps and 3.55 is perfect for that. Even on a nitrous car, if you can run 105 on motor, 120 on spray should be possible - I wouldn't want to have to make that shift into 5th if not neccessary.

it will...it just needs redrilled. I've done the research. Cost is $825 for the parts alone to accomplish the 3.55 setup (plus online parts dealer shipping) or a tad more local to me. If someone wants one I can have one or more drilled by my machinists. Im over there every weekend working with them on various Acura and Nissan projects

3.842 is by far the best for an all motor car. Unless you are making 320+ all motor (hardly anyone), you should be fine with the 3.842 with the right tire size. Those doing a 75 shot or less should be fine with the 3.842 as well. 100+ shot should stick with stock gearing or do the 3.55 (although this seems very costly).
Someone buy my J37 heads so I can go ahead and order some DRs and prove the 3.842 is the best FD for all motor

I guess maybe if you can get the parts for under 1,000 and do the work yourself the 3.55 might be worth it, but if you're paying double that with labor, the return will be minimal. A TL-S and an 8G Accord have basically identical power to weight ratios and are too close to call in any type of race, so it's not like the Accord's 3.55 is its "ace in the hole".

I'm running 26.3" tires as well, so my gears extend slightly longer than those posted. For my setup, it's:
1 - 37
2 - 59
3 - 87
4 - 117
Daily driving is GREATLY improved in terms of throttle response and torque due to the FD / LW Fly. I have my cutout so once it's installed I will be going to the track.
The fastest traps I've seen for a full bolt on / 3.7 IM/TB setup on a TL-s is 103. I've seen an 8G Accord go 105 with I/E/gutted cats only. I believe the 3.55 plays a factor, but in terms of how much exactly I can't say.

Those are your speeds of each gear now?
I would want atleast 3.80 then.
I dont know how to figure gear stuff but in the auto i ran 95 in the 1/8 and i want to get atleast 100 in the 1/8 one way or another when i put the 6speed in.

You would want to shift to 4th before you get to the 1/8th? If you're running 95 in the 1/8th with an auto and want to get to 100, with the 3.80, you'd be well into 4th before the 1/8th and a good ways into 5th in the 1/4. Heck, a 100 in the 1/8th is probably 125 in the 1/4? If so, you'd be midway thru 5th right?

I emailed MFactory over a month ago and I posted the result here. I believe they said something like they needed 10 people and it would cost around $800. A list was started and was then forgot.

I know volume brings pricing down, but I still think that is expensive. They should be no more than $600 and even that is pushing it. As said above, all they have to build is the ring gear - that should be a $300 part at most.
