3.5 Type S intake manifold swap on 3.2 Base

Wassup guys I don't know if this has been done but I've been thinking about slapping on a type s intake manifold and throwing in the 4g TL throttle body on my base 07 TL.. Reason being I'm going with the 4G TL throttle body is because for the Type S tb Delray Acura are asking for $256 and they have the 4G TL tb for $158 plus getting the P2R adapter is another $80 so I'm saving myself some change there.. I'm also thinking about port matching the IM to the throttle body.. I saw on I LOVE CARS post (took me forever to read btw) that he gained around 6-7 whp. He also confirmed that the 3.5 type S flows pretty well already... Just wana know what are your thoughts on this swap.. Thanks guys

You know you can get a used Type S TB as well to save some coin and have both IM & TB PNP for identical gains. You also might want to get your Lower Intake Runners PNP as well. All these mods combined will give you good gains especially for the 3.2.

Since you read I Love Cars thread you would also realize that he had/has other supporting mods as well so I don't know if you will gain that much by just doing 3.5 Manifold and 4G TL TB.

Yea that's true I can find somebody selling their used type s tb.. And yea I'm gonna have the basic bolt ons done as to support the mod.. And I have thought about porting the runners and matching the manifold as well but I was just thinking just to slap it on for the meantime but come to think of it might as well get it done so I don't have to go back to it.. By any chance do you know the size of a ported type S throttle body would be? 67-68mm correct?

I believe so on the bore size. And yeah better to do all at once. I know I did feel those awesome gains when I installed PNP Runners, J37 IM and ZDX TB paired with 4" Intake all together!

Are the stock type 2 intake runners the same size as the 3.2 base? And do you know a link where I can buy the runners I was looking every where in Delray Acura can't find them

do it all at once (pnp runners) otherwise you're either spending double on replacing gaskets each time (full set of gaskets is about $100) or you're not replacing gaskets (i don't recommend this, better safe than sorry)

Why don't you just get the 3.7 manifold?

The type s manifold is a bit cheaper and I just want to try something different.. Why do you suggest the 3.7? I'm all ears to hear opinions/suggestions

Can find one for a good price on car-part.com..

Improved design & flows better than the 3.5. For the cost of a used one, bang for the buck is the 3.7. Also with the 3.5 manifold, it's a restriction with the 3.7 TB, unless you get it bored to match the TB opening.

Thanks I'll look look into the site, if I can find a clean used 3.7 manifold I'll just go with it instead. And I was thinking about bore matching the 3.5 manifold into the 3.7 TB...

That's awesome man thanks!.. Is there really a difference between the mdx/zdx/4gTL manifolds some people here in the forums say that some are magnesium aluminum and one is better than the other etc.. I know there not different and the same manifolds I just want some clearance on that

Honestly I don't think there's much if anything different between the intake manifolds. I know the TB sizes vary with the TL/RL being the biggest but we're only talking a few mm.

PS. While searching for the IM, there were a few MDX TBs for less than $100

Yeah man I checked it out they got pretty cheap stuff on there can't go wrong with thanks for the site!! & Yea the zdx TB Inlet is like 79mm and the TL is 81mm but both have the same outlet.. Though I feel like boring the TL will be pointless since its so big already yet K Series motors are using 90mm throttle bodies

Don't know how much more you'd be able to bore it but it'll be a BIG improvement over the 3.2 set up the way it is..

I was talking to my friend a while ago and he suggested that I should throw in a v band type turbo.. I told him and said it really isn't a bad idea but going that route I don't want to risk the reliability of my car especially the tranny.. Any thoughts on this?
