110 Octane?
110 Octane?
So I came across some 110 Octane Racing Fuel at a local shell station. Has anyone tried this in a 3G before? I searched for some threads but came up with nothing.
I think IHC ran a 100 or 110 octane mix a while back, apparently these cars have a tendency to knock in high temps.
I don't know if you'll see any significant gains, probably some since I heard the J is actually tuned to run on 93 or 94 octane, but definetely not for almost eight bucks a gallon

I was just wondering. I was just surprised to see it at a regular gas station. It is really expensive just for normal everyday driving. About $100 for a full tank of this stuff.
As long as it's unleaded it won't hurt a thing.
The question of whether or not it can help is a little more complicated.
There's no reason to run it straight ever unless you're boosted. It won't hurt but after a certain octane you're won't benefit anymore. I monitored mine for knock retard in the middle of a Vegas summer and I was around a 96 octane mix before all traces of knock were gone.
So to answer the question, if there's knock present and you add octane you will see both a mpg and hp gain. Whether or not you can measure or feel the gain depends on how bad the knock is to begin with. My car ran smoother, the slight surge and hesitation from the ECU pulling timing was gone. It pulled much "cleaner" and smoother in the summer.
I wouldn't bother in the winter time but when that hot Vegas summer comes around it should get you a little bump in hp and mpg with somewhere around a 30% mixture.
I've never personally seen 110 unleaded, only 100 and 109. It doesn't mean it does not exist but check carefully if you decide to try it.

well your sig says you have a supercharger so in your case I know it would def help and take care of knock issues known with TL's that are boosted...mixing it with 91 should get you somewhere in mid to upper 90s which is better then 91 anyday!
BTW, were you at acurafest this year? I remember a tall guy with a girl that someone said was from Vegas.
I did not catch that! OP, definately try the high octane, you will love it. If you don't have methanol injection you need to run higher octane. The tune that comes with the kit will eventually blow your engine unless you give it more octane.

If you're traveling on I-15 North you'll see a Shell station all alone on the right side maybe 30-40 minutes outside the city. Also I heard some stations by the Raceway carry it but I never went over there to confirm for myself.
True, I noticed that when I had to stopped by to fill up my tank.
