'07 TL Type S Exhaust question

So i just recently purchased an 07' TL Type S, i have slotted and cross drilled rotors on the way (front and back) and next week im ordering a AEM CAI. I'm looking at exhaust but i was wondering does the type s have headers? Does it have high flow cats? I love the sound of ExceleratePerformance exhaust and will be purchashing those, But if i was to redo the catbacks, i would also like to redo the manifold and cats (if they werent high flow) If the type s doesnt have high flow cats and headers anyone know where i could getem? Ive been searching online all day and havent found a place. Anyhelp would be appreciated. Thanks.

Umm, i understand the TL doesn't really have headers, but u can get precat delets. That it was the headers are really are. And the tl-s doesn't have highflow cats, i wouldn't think. I would just get some Precat delets, exlerate catback, and a j-pipe.

If i go with a catless setup wont that trip a sensor on my check engine light, and i will fail emissions? The word "Jpipe" does that refer to the manufacture or a certain section of the exhaust?

jpipe = is a collector, where the front and rear gasses unite

and going catless would not trip a check engine light, but you would fail emission

if you are weary of failing emissions... see this thread and only replace the jpipe and 3rd cat

well i know that in wisconsin they connect a computer up to your computer on 96' and new vehicles and it only fails emissions if a check engine light come on... Right? So if the CEL doesnt come on why would i fail emissions? For my Roush mustang i have bassanxi hi flow cats which tripped my CEL, but they made a resister that you splice into the wire so it wont trip the cel. and ive been passing.

^ oh there you go so keep on keeping on... cuz I initially got a light, did a little trouble shooting with racinghart03, fixed the first light (not related to the precat deletes), then fixed another light that came up through troubleshooting with richie v6... he ended up sending me altered defoulers which work like a charm

precats (also known as primary catalytic converters), there are 2, 1 in front and 1 in rear

here is the precat delete which replaces these 2 with straight pipes

ok now for the exhaust

# 1 is your 3rd catalytic converter
which can be replaced by 3rd cat delete

#6 is your jpipe
and of course #15 is your full catback

precats attached to the motor and jpipe attaches to jpipe

If you go with an aftermarket exhaust make sure it is resonated, a non resonated exhaust will be extremely loud inside the cabin and raspy outside

Not to hijack but how does the stock TL-S cat back flow?? If someone were to do the pre-cat deletes, j-pipe and race pipe what kind of gains could you expect with the factory cat-back in place and how loud would it be?

Hey stillhere153 thanks for the great info! Now i pretty much understand it.

Since you guys are so helpful i would like to put together a high flow exhaust that wont trip the cel and will pass emissions and wont have that smell (btw what part is replaced that lets the smell out)
Would i need to purchase just the RV6 J-shift J-pipe and test pipe combo (the special thats running right now) along with the xlr8 catback? Im just looking for a nice deep sound not to exteremely loud and not ricie.

The type s exhaust is very restrictive, but not as restrictive as the jpipe

If you replace the jpipe install a testpipe and a hiflowing catback you will easily gain plenty of power all throughout the powerband

The precat deletes cause the smell, they are generally for the hardcore modifier who wants 100% flow

How much more would a TL-S 5AT stand to pick up with j-pipe/test pipe and the aftermarket cat back vs. leaving the stock cat back in place?

An auto would easily gain 15hp where the 6speed would pick up like 20

WOW... I didnt realize the stock cat back is that restrictive, 15hp from just a cat back is quite impressive for a car with this amount of power (I have seen guys with 400-500 rwhp gain 20+ rwhp with a cat back swap).

Hey does anyone know how to tell the difference between a base cat converter and a type s cat? I found one and want to make sure it's a type s before i pick it up. Some help with this would be nice.

There is less cells in the Type S making it a High Flow, so count the cells
