yaw control on navi??
I tried the diagnostics for the car through my navi by pressing and holding Map/Guide + Menu + Cancel...
I see there is a tire calibration and yaw rate screens... seems like you can calibrate your tires for something and change the factor for yaw..... how do they work?
thanks

Both items are used by the navigation system to calculate position when satellites are not in view. Tire calibration makes sure that it's using the appropriate constant (wheel diameter) when calculating how far you've moved forward. Yaw rate, if you leave that screen up while driving turning right and left you'll see that the number will go up or down (don't rememeber if up is right or left). Midpoint should be something like 2.54. A yaw sensor is something that measures the "intensity" of your turn (basically a weight on a horizontal spring attached to a strain gage) Knowing the intensity of the turn and duration you can derive position... remember calculus?? That's how when you drive through a curvey tunnel the GPS doesn't show that you've just driven into the wall.
Make sense??

ah! thanks!
yea... i thought it might have to do something with positioning when there is not sat. but i was wondering then... if you changed the diameter of your tire.... lets say i went 19" and got 40 seriers or even 30 series (supposed to go 35 to get right diameter) could i change the calibration to show the correct MPH, and miles?
thanks...

Not sure if the calibration in the Nav system will change the speedometer readout, actually kinda doubt it. But it will be sure to keep your nav tracking properly. If you go into the diagnostic screen and hold the menu button from the satellite tracking screen. It'll take you to another screen that displays your speed updated every 1 second. I personally like to watch the elevation

you can get the elevation directly, without going all the way in diags... just tap on the WHITE Circle around the Red Arrow which shows your current position. that gives your latitude, longitude, and elevation.
