Would you spend $2000 on a Navi Conversion

I'm on the fence about this, never had navi and never had experience with it, but honestly $2k is alot of money and for a car with 95k miles. Can someone convince me why or why I shouldn't spend the money? I could be saving for a new transmission when mine goes!

just buy a garmin and save the rest for your transmission. Not worth it really, I have navi and I still use my Garmin for navigation purposes, plus the Navi system is quite dated to even the newer portables. I think my Garmin has a higher resolution screen than the 04 TL.

I do use the voice commands for the HVAC, however.

My limit would be about $500. That's about double what I can get a pretty nice stand alone. $2k. No way.

No!!! i wouldn't honestly i dont even like the navi that much, its slow and it using a disc is old school and you have to pay for traffic and to get traffic you must get XM you have to pay for that too. To update it even cost money. I just got it because it came with the car. I like my $100 TomTom, Free updates Free navi, way better. and think about just how many times will you actually even use it....not that many

I have to agree with mrlal8. The car looks incomplete without it. :/

Negative... I have navi and its kinda useless. I went on a trip from Jersey - Baltimore - Bethesda - Washington D.C - Quantico, Va. with a Garmin I borrowed and used it side by side with my TL navi (not updated since 2004). I had a lot more trust in the Garmin and it took me to where I had to go, while the TL navi was lost in it's own little world most of the time.

Yes, the TL Nav hasn't been updated, but I didn't feel like spending $145 -$189 for a new disc every time I have to update it when I can use the $ for a new Garmin or other things.

I agree it's naked without it, but $2k can go to something else.

Sell your car and buy a different 3G with navi. They are only worth about $500 on the market, if that. I could probably show you evidence that my 2004 with navi was no more than a 2004 without. My 2006 does not have navi and neither I or my wife miss it.

HELL NO I wouldn't spend that much... You can buy a Garmin or Tom Tom for less than 100 Dollars and you don't have to spend 250 everytime a new Update comes out. Theres an Update DVD on my Navi but Ill be Damned if I pay almost 250 for a new DVD with new POI and new Roads. I would spend that money on some Nice Rims, Aspec, Audio System, or even a Head Unit with Navi that would be cheaper than 2000 and would do the same the OEM Navi does and more

I can't wait until you can get a dumb screen in your car that just has inputs to run your phone/ aftermarket nav/ backup cam/ dvd/ game system. I heard awhile ago that they are working on a standard to let smartphones interface with a car display.

hell. no.

especially if you are referring to the stock nav. It is balls.

I ripped my stock nav out and replaced it w/ a Kenwood/Garmin unit it was so bad.

I wonder how much it'd cost Neibur3 to do something like he had installed in his car? That would be a MUCH nicer route in my opinion

Not really worth it... I did check the pros and cons Versus a carputer and I went with the MacMini installation 3 years ago.

I have more then the OEM Navi offers with better display quality and full customization, for a cheaper price...

For sure it's a personnalize setup that needs knowledge and time....but in the end it pays off

That was my 2 cent!

$2k on navi? no! unless you are buying a new car and this is an "option" price.
With $2k, you should get your a carpc.
If navi is a must have, try search on ebay or black market for the navi part you maybe surprise on what you find

No way-- it's easier to trade for a Navi-equipped car.

I have Navi and it's nice, but I wouldn't want to pay $2K to add it to a non-Navi car.

No way in the world. I would rather have someone to kick me in the jewels 200 times. The Navi plain out is horrible. TOM TOM, Garmin, Magelean (SP?) any of these at the very most would cost you 5-6 hundred. That would be the top of the line and biggest screen available. AND it would be waaay better than the Navi in the TL. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO do not spend $2000 not even $500 on Navi for TL. I have 2004 TL with Navi if it did not come with it I would have bought one of the 3 listed above.

Yeah, thanks for mentioning. I really like the setup I have because you not only have NAVI, but it is made to automatically interface with the DVD player.

With that being said, he would have to be willing to either ditch the factory radio as well or move the screens down below the radio, like so many on here have.

Indeed the TL's navi is nothing to write home about. BUT it (the screen) looks very nice, as others have said. The screen for the radio and the upper display above the air vents are a nice feature.

No, I'd rather spend the money and upgrade to a newer TL with nav from the factory or spend the money towards another car.

IMO the Nav is a GREAT feature to have and really brings the TL together greatly. Granted we don't use the nav function all the time, but the audio system integration along with the HVAC and clock and other minor changes make the car SO much better.
