Would you buy this system?

If you can get this system for about $190, would you buy it?

If not, then what is a good pair of 10"s to buy? I'm looking for a little loud, but clean/tight bass. I listen to everything.

300 max isn't much

A proper box would eat up half of that. and 150 for 2 good 10's will be hard to find.

You can get something for that much. You said your looking for bass but not too loud so you maybe a nice 10" sub, & a 1000 watt amp or lower. For $300 You'll may be able to get some descent bass just not something high end or that you can hear within a 2 mile radius

Well I do know the type R's are loud subs and the bass is pretty solid. I have yet to get a real chance to put the sound quality to the test.

I will say if you do purchase that you'll more than likely have some serious dash rattle issues. The type R series is built for SPL.

Frankly if you put that money into just one sub you'll more thank likely be satisfied. The question is are you looking for quality sound or spl or that happy medium with a little of both.

I will say i cannot comment on that sundown brand. Truth is I never heard of till I joined this forum and I subscribe to pro audio mags so i really don't know if it's great or not.

One thing you'll need to wrap your head around is, no two persons sound preference is the same (egghustle and I may never agree on sound and that is not a bad thing).

I can give you a list of what i think are good subwoofers. To keep it simple a boston acoustic G2. Good price vs performance In My Opinion. I have owned one myself so there's no speculation here.

G2 only has a 10" and 12"(15" as well but I don't know where to find one). I owned the 12" and it was great(somebody stole the thing).

Either one(10"/12") will fit the bill because the specs are nearly identical. I'll say that the DVC/44 models run 2ohm and 8ohms only(easy switched by fuses). The Single Voice coil runs 4ohms only.

Amps well I don't know if you can squeeze a good amp on that budget. Still boston acoustic would be the choice. gta-400m and I'd recommend you get 44 model g2 if that were your choice.

I don't know if anyone has input on this but from what i have been told Crunch is a solid budget amp brand for the most part. Hopefully some one steps in, on the budget amp department.

For the record my fave bring is phoenix gold(Bostons second).

there are a bunch of nice setups in the Black Market. with your budget, i would honestly just get some high quality stuff slightly used.

i bought my setup second hand from a friend for around 250. it was 3 years old but it sounds fine to me

how much do you care about having brand new stuff and such?

I would look for either image dynamics or acoustic elegance ib15's and do an infinite baffle so you don't have to buy/build a box.

I want a sq sub, with some output at the same time. I want something that won't make everything rattle in my car, but with some good crisp bass.

Question: Which produces better sound quality, two 10 subs or one 12 sub? I mostly listen to techno, rap, rock. And are JLs SQ subs? Need help deciding.

10s I'm thinking of: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...sr=8-1&seller=

12: http://www.amazon.com/JL-AUDIO-12W3V...7670024&sr=1-2

Will these provide that happy medium with a little of both SPL and SQ?

Take a few weeks and look on your local Craigslist. You should be able to find some decent stuff used for $300. Have cash and you should be able to talk people down.

Be patient and do your homework. As a rule of thumb, if they sell the stuff at a national brand store (best buy, or the like), then it is probably junk.

The W3 is an OK sub for your budget. The w1 is a turd.

+1 on what JDA said. With a budget like that, your best bet would be to buy something used. That JL w7 isn't a bad little setup and is supposedly a nice sql driver. Never heard one though. I would look through craigslist and if your unsure about something..post it up here! We can help you

I've got 2 10" jl w3v3's in a 3.0 cu.ft. ported tuned to 33hz....its ok. The JL's sound good but just don't have much authority. Plenty of spl for me b/c I'm not looking for gobs but I'm hoping if I trade my Kicker 400.1 for an alpine m-1000 I'll see a little more punch.

I think it also depends on what OP is after..if he will need to use a Line output converter.. then were talking about different tiers of install:

1. Line Out Converter
2. Cables (under hood power, grounds, from LOC to rear amp(s))
3. Amp, Sub, Sub Box

This can all add up very quickly. Plan to spend $100 atleast for accessory installation crap.. rcas, speaker wire, ground wire, power wire, fuses.

With $300 I would just put it out of sight and save to buy something that cost a little bit more. Kicker and Rockford Fosgate used to really be amazing..not so much anymore.

going from 400w to 1000w will net u a little over 3db. Not noticeable in the realm of things. The w3 just wasn't built for that, neither are any of the subs in jl's line up. People see JL and automatically assume it's special(not you)..jus sayin

I'm not a huge audio nut but I have a 12" Alpine Type-R and I love it. I bought my girlfriend a 12" Type-R and since I have a sealed box and she has a ported box, hers is louder than mine.

What model Type-R do you have? and what's pushing it? Also, does it rattle your rear deck or anything/too loud? How is the quality?

If the rear deck is not rattling, then you didn't put a sub in. Just plan on fixing it - it is easy, there are many posts.
