Is it worth doing the conversion from the 05 nav to the 07 nav?

Did a search, but did not see the exact differences between 04-06 and the 07 and up nav systems...I know they added nav traffic, but I'm just curious as to what else was added? Any change in the screen resolution at all? Sunlight makes it fade out pretty easy...

Thanks

Fade out, as in difficult to see?

If so, try and install an anti-glare film. I had the same problem with my iPhone and that did the trick. Won't negatively affect the touchscreen, either.

Actually what I'm really asking is what are the differences between the 05 and 07 navigation systems besides xm navtraffic? Did the re-do the interface or anything like that?

I have an 05 my self and my fiance has a 08. The major difference I can tell is that her's will display near by icons such as gas stations, places to eat, hotels and what not and my doesn't. Also I'm not sure if this is considered part of the navi unit but, when you play a burned cd in her it will display the title and artist on the tracks which mine won't. I kind of like that all those features myself and wonder if it's worth it also and how much it would cost to convert everything over to an 08.

Yeah mine displays gas stations, AT?Ms, hotels... whatever i want it to display basically (you just have to select it). I have an 06 btw. All I can tell is that the resolution might be better (I had an 07 loaner), and NAV traffic. I would want the new CD player, though. It plays MP3s... were as 04-06s just play DVD-A =( .

You'd have to determine if it would be up to you to do the mod. Some people it may not be worth it for only an incremental upgrade.

I think the reason its not displaying nearby gas stations etc. and her's is, is that your Nav disc is probably an older one and therefore isn't highlighting POIs on your drive route however her's is 3 years newer with updated POIs hence displays them.

I bought a CPO 04 and near to the dealership, it displayed POIs of gas stations but I haven't seen any on the display near my area. At first I thought it broke but then they showed up when I was on the highway again.

Updated GUI, phone book importation and traffic. Those are the only differences I've read about.

I just updated my navi dvd last July. I wonder if they updated it again after that because we didn't get my girl's car until October and they probably updated it by then. I spent $175 for that damn navi dvd lOl... But, yeah I do like her cd player I guess since it does support mp3 and wma format burnt cds and display text also. But, I notice when the ipod is hooked up to it doesn't display text and you can't use the controls on the steering wheel to get to the next track.

-nav traffic *requires you to upgrade the xm receiver
-nav loads a LOT faster. (so, the OK button isn't as annoying. start the car and a few seconds later the OK button appears, unlike the 04-06 drive that takes a good 30 seconds to load). routing and most other functions seem to work faster, too.
-zagat restaurant guide integrated to POI (i.e. "find nearest zagat restaurant"). will give you ratings and a short summary of the restaurant. will even read it aloud to you in robotic voice. it's amusing.
-import phonebook and having it available within the navi interface. *requires you to upgrade the HFL
-I don't know if they fixed this with 3.XX discs, but you can now find starbucks and other coffeeshops easier now.
-Many more voice commands, including the ability to spell letters into the navi

the mp3/wma thing is not related to navi and requires you to upgrade the audio headunit.

One thing that bugs me about the 05 nav unit is if you type in something like "best buy" it will pull up a store like 1500 miles away...is the 07 nav unit improved in that way?

I have an 06 TL with the older nav, and an 08 Honda Pilot with the newer nav (except no Zagat or traffic). While the newer nav is nice, I'd say there's no way it would be worth upgrading. You're talking a whole lotta bucks (easily $1000+) and effort to pull apart the dash and swap out all that stuff, just for a marginal upgrade. The 07 nav has some advantages but its still old tech by far, compared to current stand-alone units on the market. You'd be much better off putting a portion of that cash to buying an iPhone, which will give you access to all the POI, restaurant reviews, traffic data, weather, etc. that you could possibly want, and it would be the most current info available. Then once you have what you're looking for, plug the address into your 06 navi and it will get you there just fine. That's what I do.

A new iPhone plus a year's worth of voice and data charges would cost you less than this upgrade, and you'll get a whole lot more for your money, without pulling your interior apart.

having an 05 w/nav >>> having a base TL

I think MP3 support with "improved" text display is a nice addition to 07-08s... not to mention an auxilary input for ALL 07-08 TLs.
