Wondering if this is possible with the Navi ...

Is there a way to just type in the name of a place (say, like "Kinko's") and then just have the Navi give all the hits sorted by distance? I hate hunting through all the "sub-category" stuff.

Thanks!

yes, unfortunately I don't remember the exact steps but I beleive if you go to menu and hit find a place you can enter a name in there.

Yes, but it doesn't do a good job finding places.

You can do this - kind of. Click on "Places", then "Name", and type a part of the name. For instance, if you want Barnes & Noble type Barnes, it will list things that contain Barnes but it's a mess, for instance you'll have some listings under Barnes & Noble Books, some under Barnes & Noble Bookstore, etc. and if you don't click on the exact listing that your town's store falls in, you're screwed. It's a shame the directory feature is so crappy but I suspect other brands are probably as bad or worse

I do this:

Places>Category>Shopping>All Categories>Keyword>Sort Distance to Travel>Enter part of the name

or

Places>Category>Advanced>All Categories>Keyword>Sort Distance to Travel>Enter part of the name

I may be off a bit in what each part is but the gist of it is to avoid searching by name because it's too literal. For instance, typing "Starbucks" seems to turn up the nearest one being hundreds of miles away. But using "Starbuck" as a keyword turns up everything I need.

Right on!

I used to have the same problem until I followed this sequence. I was thinking too much. Just follow the NAV menu buttons on each screen at the top (pretty much).
