I'm glad I bought the car with navi. It's gonna take a lot of work but props to you for tackling this project.

Damn! Props to you for sure, I'm glad the navi is standard in the Type-S haha

How much is the kit, and how hard is it to install? Did you buy the car planning on doing the nav yourself to save some money, or didn't you plan on wanting a nav when you bought it?

The kit was 1800 for everything I needed including the voice command. As for the car, I got a pretty good deal at the time for it. It only had 37000 miles on it and I got it for 16000. It was too hard to pass up so I got it without nav. I knew I could do the nav because i have had about 4 years experience doing car audio installs. We'll see how it goes

Martin is this guy on ebay who sells the complete kit for our cars, wires, subscreen, steering wheel buttons and all. He is the best option out there in my opinion

Oh, and Mods, my bad not putting this thread in here to begin with

Good luck. What DVD version did you get? Hopefully you got the latest one. Oh and if you wanted to swap the bulbs to LEDs, now would be the perfect time since you would have to take everything apart again if one of the lights blew.

Good idea! I'll do that as well. As for the DVD version it's a 3.40 is what it says. I'm pretty sure there are updated versions so I'll look into that as well.

3.8 is the most current version as of November 2008. I'm on 3.4, I think, and my database release date is September 2004.

I'm intrigued to do something like this too. Do a lot of people do this upgrade? If so, is there a DYI for it? How much would the dealer charge for something like this?

I don't think it'll be bad at all. I do have experience though

Do you have to splice wires with Martin's kit? I remember reading tutorials before where people spliced wires together or hacked up a wire harness or something.

No hacking involved (per se) What needs to be done though is a repinning of several harnesses. The wires come ready to be pinned. I'll take pictures and post them later.

Here is what I was talking about. The wires have the metal clips installed already. All that needs to be done is to open up the harness and plug them into the correct spaces. Pin locations were included with the kit to make it easier.

NAV UPDATE!! Many Pics

Well... it's done and it wasn't too bad at all! Things that I did: Nav, nav hack (ok button, wallpaper, and trip computer mods) cabin filter, isimple, short shifter. It took about 4 hours with 2 and a half people. Everything turned out really well here are some pics of the project. Enjoy

Cabin filter

Short shifter install

HA HA HA. Suggestive theme!
